This EMPI exhaust header is designed to improve the breathing and performance of your classic aircooled Volkswagen. Constructed from durable steel, it features a large 3-bolt flange style that provides a secure, leak-free connection for high-flow exhaust setups. This header is the primary component needed to build a custom low-mount system that balances backpressure and exhaust velocity.

Vehicle Fitment & Compatibility

This header is engineered specifically for the following applications:

• VW Type 1 Beetle: 1966 to 1973
• VW Karmann Ghia: 1966 to 1973
• Engine Sizes: 1300cc to 1600cc

To complete a low-mount dual exhaust system, this header is intended to be used with muffler set #00-3605-0. It is designed for standard upright engines and utilizes the large flange stinger and muffler interface.

Strip the Storage Paint: The black finish on this header is a temporary coating designed to prevent rust during shipping and storage only. It is not high-temperature paint. For a professional and long-lasting look, we recommend stripping this coating and applying a high-quality ceramic coating or high-temp exhaust paint before installation.

Ensure Proper Flange Sealing: When connecting your muffler or stinger to the 3-bolt flange, always use a new, high-quality gasket. Tighten the bolts in an even, alternating pattern to ensure the flange seats flatly, preventing exhaust leaks that can lead to popping or poor engine performance.

Check Rear Apron Clearance: Because this header is designed for performance, it may sit differently than a stock pea-shooter exhaust. Before final tightening, mock up the header and muffler to check for clearance against the rear apron and engine tin. Slight adjustments to the engine tin may be necessary on some custom builds to ensure no vibration or heat transfer occurs.
