Pro Tech Tips for Your Ignition System

Tip 1: Inspect for Carbon Tracking: When replacing your cap, always check the interior of the old unit for "carbon tracking"faint, burnt lines between the terminals. If tracking is present, it indicates that your spark is jumping to ground rather than reaching the spark plug. This is often caused by excessive resistance in your spark plug wires or fouled plugs, so be sure to inspect your entire secondary ignition system during the swap.

Tip 2: Verify the Center Carbon Brush: Before snapping the new cap onto the distributor housing, ensure the spring-loaded carbon brush in the center of the cap moves freely.
