Vehicle Fitment & Compatibility

This rotor is specifically designed for use with Bosch 009 and 094 style distributors. These are the most common aftermarket distributors used on VW Type 1 (Beetle, Karmann Ghia, Thing), Type 2 (Bus/Transporter), and Type 3 engines. Please note that this rotor is intended for centrifugal advance distributors and may not fit original stock vacuum advance units. It is a direct replacement for EMPI part number 04033 and Bosch reference 04033.

Pro Tech Tips for Ignition Maintenance

Tip 1: Verify Proper Seating. When installing the new rotor, ensure it is fully pressed down onto the distributor shaft and that the internal key aligns perfectly with the shaft notch. If the rotor is not seated completely, it can wobble at high RPMs, leading to contact with the distributor cap terminals which may cause the rotor to shatter or damage the cap.

Tip 2: Inspect for Carbon Tracking. During your regular tune-ups, remove the rotor and inspect the plastic body for "carbon tracking"faint black lines that look like spider webs. These lines indicate that high-voltage electricity is leaking to the ground through the rotor body rather than traveling to the spark plug wires. If any tracking is visible, replace the rotor immediately to prevent misfires.

Tip 3: Replace as a Matched Set. For the best results, always replace your distributor cap and rotor at the same time. As the rotor tip wears down, the gap between it and the cap terminals increases, requiring more voltage to jump the space. Installing a new rotor with an old, pitted cap can lead to premature wear of the new component and inconsistent engine performance.
