OVERVIEW
Precision tuning is the heartbeat of any high-performance air-cooled engine, and the Weber IDF Air Jet 130 is an essential component for achieving that perfect stoichiometric balance. When you are running a dual Weber IDF or EMPI HPMX setup on your Volkswagen, the air jet plays a critical role in the high-speed circuit. It works in conjunction with the emulsion tube to control the amount of air that mixes with the fuel delivered by the main jet. A 130 air jet is a common choice for tuners looking to refine the fuel curve, ensuring that the engine doesn''t run too rich or too lean as the RPMs climb. Without the correct air jet sizing, your engine may suffer from "flat spots" or high-end stumbling, which can lead to increased cylinder head temperatures and potential engine damage in the long run.
At Appletree Automotive, we understand that "close enough" is never sufficient for a master engine builder. This 77401.130 Air Jet is manufactured to exacting tolerances, ensuring consistent airflow across all barrels of your carburetors. Whether you are dialing in a 1776cc street cruiser or a high-revving 2332cc stroker, having a full selection of air jets is the only way to properly "map" your mechanical fuel system. These jets are designed for longevity and accuracy, featuring high-quality brass construction that resists corrosion and maintains its orifice diameter over years of service. If you are experiencing a rich condition at wide-open throttle, stepping up to this 130 air jet can help introduce more air into the mixture, leaning it out precisely where you need it most for maximum horsepower and throttle response.

PRO TIPS
Understanding the Air Jet Inverse Relationship
One of the most common mistakes beginners make is assuming that a larger air jet makes the engine run richer. In reality, the air jet works inversely to the main jet. A larger air jet (like moving from a 130 to a 150) actually leans out the mixture at high RPMs by introducing more air into the emulsion tube. Conversely, a smaller air jet will richen the high-speed mixture. If your VW is pulling hard in the mid-range but starts to "nose over" or sputter at the top of the gear, you may need to adjust your air jet size to compensate for the air-to-fuel ratio shift. Always monitor your spark plugs or use a wideband O2 sensor to verify these changes under load.
The Importance of Proper Tooling
Brass is a relatively soft metal, and the slot on the top of the Weber IDF Air Jet can be easily deformed if you use a screwdriver that is too small or too thin. Always use a high-quality, flat-head screwdriver that fits the slot perfectly from edge to edge. If you "bugger up" the slot, it can be extremely difficult to remove the jet from the top of the emulsion tube stack without removing the carburetor from the engine. A snug-fitting tool ensures you can swap jets quickly at the track or in the garage without damaging these precision components.
Systematic Tuning Records
When you are dialing in your Weber or HPMX carburetors, never change more than one variable at a time. If you change your main jets, idle jets, and air jets all at once, you won''t know which change actually improved (or worsened) your performance. We highly recommend keeping a "Jetting Log" in your glove box or toolbox. Record the ambient temperature, altitude, and your current jetting stack (Main, Air, Idle, and Venturi size). This allows you to see patterns in how your engine reacts to atmospheric changes, making it much easier to select the right jet, like the 130 air jet, when the seasons change or when traveling to different elevations.
