Pro Tech Tips from Appletree Auto

1. Check the Shift Rod Bushing: When replacing your coupler, always inspect the nylon shift rod bushing located further forward in the tunnel. If that bushing is cracked or missing, a new coupler alone will not fix a "sloppy" shifter feel.

2. Safety Wire the Set Screw: The square-head set screw that secures the coupler to the transmission selector shaft is prone to vibrating loose over time. We recommend using safety wire through the hole in the bolt head to ensure it stays locked in place.

3. Align the Detent: Ensure the pointed end of the set screw is perfectly seated into the dimple (detent) on the transmission selector shaft before tightening. If it is offset, you risk damaging the threads and losing the ability to shift into certain gears.
