OVERVIEW
When it comes to the safety and longevity of your vintage Volkswagen, nothing is more critical than the integrity of your braking system. Over decades of service, original mild steel brake lines are prone to internal scaling and external corrosion, which can lead to catastrophic failure or a spongy pedal feel that robs you of driving confidence. This IAP Stainless Steel Brake Line Kit is the ultimate solution for 1958 through 1966 Beetle owners who want to upgrade their chassis with a "once and done" mindset. Unlike standard steel lines that will eventually succumb to moisture and road salt, these 304-grade stainless steel lines offer superior resistance to the elements, ensuring that your hydraulic system remains pristine for the life of the vehicle. Whether you are performing a body-off restoration or simply refreshing a daily driver, this kit provides the peace of mind that only high-grade stainless components can deliver.
This comprehensive 7-piece kit is meticulously engineered to match the factory routing of the Type 1 chassis, featuring the correct 10mm metric bubble flares (DIN) that are essential for a leak-free seal with your master cylinder, wheel cylinders, and flexible hoses. Each line is constructed with the proper wall thickness to handle the high-pressure demands of the VW braking system without expanding under load. By replacing your aging, pitted lines with this stainless set, you aren''t just performing maintenance; you are investing in a significant performance upgrade. The rigid nature of stainless steel provides a firmer, more responsive brake pedal compared to old, fatigued lines. Designed for a precise fit on the 1958-1966 Beetle, this kit simplifies the installation process by providing the exact lengths required to navigate the twists and turns of the VW floor pan and axle beams.

PRO TIPS
1. Use the Right Tools for the Job
When installing stainless steel brake lines, it is absolutely vital to use a dedicated 10mm flare nut wrench (also known as a line wrench) rather than a standard open-end wrench. Stainless steel fittings are durable, but the hex heads can still be rounded off if the tool doesn''t wrap around the fitting securely. Because stainless is a harder material than traditional steel, it requires a bit more torque to achieve a perfect "crush" seal on the bubble flare. A flare nut wrench provides the necessary grip to apply this torque without slipping and damaging your brand-new lines or the wheel cylinders they attach to.
2. Gentle Bending and Tweaking
While these lines are pre-cut and flared to the correct lengths, shipping often necessitates that the longer lines (like the main center line) be loosely coiled or slightly adjusted. When straightening or making final fitment tweaks to navigate your specific chassis, always use a specialized tube bender or very gentle hand pressure over a large radius. Never allow the line to kink. If a stainless line kinks, its structural integrity is compromised and it must be replaced. Taking your time to mirror the original factory bends will result in a much cleaner, professional-looking installation that clears all moving suspension components.
3. Master the Bleeding Sequence
After installing your new 7-piece kit, the entire system will be full of air. To ensure a rock-solid pedal, always start the bleeding process at the wheel cylinder furthest from the master cylinder and work your way closer. For a left-hand drive Beetle, the sequence is: Passenger Rear, Driver Rear, Passenger Front, and finally Driver Front. Since you are using new stainless lines, it is also the perfect time to flush the entire system with high-quality DOT 3 or DOT 4 brake fluid. Keep a close eye on the master cylinder reservoir level during this process; if it runs dry, you will pull air back into the new lines and have to start the entire process over again.
