These chrome torsion caps are a essential upgrade for any VW-based sand rail, off-road buggy, or custom street project. Designed specifically for swing axle rear ends, these caps feature a solid "without hole" design for a clean, finished appearance. Sold as a pair, they provide both structural support for the torsion bushings and a show-quality chrome finish that resists the elements better than stock painted versions.

Vehicle Fitment

These torsion caps are designed for Volkswagen vehicles equipped with a swing axle rear suspension. This includes most Type 1 Beetles through 1968, Karmann Ghias, and early Type 3 models. They are also the standard fitment for aftermarket tubular sand rail and dune buggy chassis using a VW swing axle torsion housing. Please note these are not compatible with later IRS (Independent Rear Suspension) setups which use a different 4-bolt pattern and cap depth.

Pro Tech Tips

Inspect Your Bushings: Since you must remove the caps to access the suspension, this is the ideal time to inspect your inner and outer torsion arm bushings. If the rubber is cracked or the urethane is distorted, replace them now to ensure proper suspension geometry and eliminate common rear-end squeaks.

Use Anti-Seize on Hardware: Before installing the mounting bolts through the chrome caps, apply a small amount of anti-seize to the threads. This prevents the bolts from seizing in the torsion housing due to electrolysis or trail grime, making future suspension adjustments much easier.

Verify Torsion Bar Seating: Because these are "without hole" (solid) caps, ensure your torsion bars are fully seated into the inner splines. If the bar is not seated correctly, it may press against the inside of the cap, preventing a flush fit against the housing and potentially damaging the chrome finish during tightening.
