OVERVIEW
Elevate the aesthetic and functional integrity of your Volkswagen''s rear suspension with the EMPI Chrome IRS Torsion Caps. These aren''t just simple covers; they are a critical component for anyone building a high-performance sand rail, a rugged Baja bug, or a show-quality street machine. Designed specifically for Independent Rear Suspension (IRS) setups, these caps provide the necessary clamping force to keep your torsion bushings and spring plates securely in place. The high-luster chrome finish offers a brilliant, mirror-like shine that stands out in the engine bay or underneath a tube-chassis rail, ensuring your build looks as good as it performs. The integrated center hole is a strategic feature, allowing for the use of longer, heavy-duty torsion bars that may protrude past the housing, or simply providing easier access for maintenance and lubrication without requiring full disassembly of the rear suspension stack.
Versatility is at the core of these EMPI torsion caps, making them a staple for air-cooled enthusiasts. Whether you are running a standard single spring plate or have upgraded to a heavy-duty double spring plate configuration for off-road abuse, these caps are engineered to adapt. They come equipped with four precision spacers; when running double spring plates, these spacers provide the necessary clearance for a perfect fit. If your project utilizes a single spring plate, simply remove the spacers to achieve a flush, secure seat against the torsion housing. This adaptability eliminates the guesswork and the need for custom fabrication, providing a "bolt-on and go" solution that maintains proper suspension geometry. Don''t settle for pitted, rusted factory covers when you can upgrade to a component that offers both structural reliability and a premium custom appearance.

PRO TIPS
1. Proper Spacer Management for Spring Plates
One of the most common mistakes during installation is failing to adjust the spacers for your specific spring plate thickness. If you are using a standard single spring plate, you MUST remove the four included spacers. Installing the cap with spacers on a single plate will leave a gap, preventing the cap from properly capturing the rubber or urethane bushing, which leads to suspension slop and "clunking." Conversely, if you have upgraded to double spring plates for off-road durability, the spacers are essential to provide the extra depth needed so the cap doesn''t bind against the plate before the bolts are tight. Always test-fit the cap without the torsion bar under tension to ensure it seats squarely against the housing.
2. Bushing Lubrication and Anti-Seize Usage
When installing these chrome caps, it is the perfect time to inspect your torsion bushings. If you are using aftermarket urethane bushings, be sure to apply a generous amount of high-quality silicone-based grease to the inner and outer surfaces of the bushing. This prevents the dreaded "VW squeak" that occurs when the bushing rubs against the chrome cap. Additionally, because these caps are often used on off-road vehicles exposed to moisture and mud, we highly recommend applying a small amount of anti-seize lubricant to the threads of your mounting bolts. This ensures that the bolts won''t gall or seize into the torsion housing, making future suspension adjustments or bar swaps significantly easier.
3. Maintaining the Show-Quality Chrome Finish
Chrome components located in the wheel well or on the rear of a sand rail are subjected to constant bombardment from road debris, sand, and moisture. To keep these caps looking like new, don''t just bolt them on and forget them. After installation, wipe them down with a wax or a chrome sealant. This creates a sacrificial barrier that helps prevent pitting and surface rust caused by brake dust or salt. If you are running a sand rail, a quick spray with a silicone detailer after washing will help shed sand and water, ensuring that the 6560-11 caps remain a highlight of your chassis for years to come.
