OVERVIEW
Unlock the hidden potential of your dual-port air-cooled engine with the AA Performance Dual Port Single 44mm Carburetor Kit. This IDF-style setup is engineered for the VW enthusiast who demands a significant boost in throttle response and top-end power without the synchronization headaches often associated with dual-carburetor configurations. By utilizing a high-performance 44mm center-mount carburetor, this kit provides a massive increase in airflow compared to the restrictive stock Solex units. Whether you are running a spirited 1776cc street engine or a torquey 1915cc cruiser, this 44mm IDF-style carb delivers the aggressive induction roar and crisp acceleration that has made the IDF platform a legend in the Volkswagen community for decades. AA Performance has carefully manufactured this unit to be a faithful high-quality alternative to the classic Weber design, ensuring that most internal components and jets are interchangeable for easy tuning and long-term maintenance.
The beauty of the single 44mm IDF kit lies in its simplicity and efficiency. This comprehensive package includes a rugged EMPI single IDF intake manifold specifically designed for dual-port heads, ensuring a secure fit and optimized fuel-air mixture delivery. The kit is rounded out with a high-flow chrome air cleaner featuring a washable gauze element, providing both a show-quality finish under the decklid and superior filtration for your engine''s internals. While this kit is not a genuine Weber brand, it offers the same performance characteristics at a price point that allows you to invest more in other areas of your build. It is the perfect bridge for the owner who wants more "grunt" than a stock carb can provide but isn''t ready to deal with the tight engine bay clearances of a dual-carb setup. From the precision-cast carburetor body to the included gaskets and hardware, every piece of this kit is designed to get your VW back on the road with more attitude and better performance than ever before.

PRO TIPS
1. Master the Art of Fine Tuning
While this kit comes pre-jetted with a 155 Main and 60 Idle jet, which is a fantastic baseline for most 1776cc to 1915cc engines, you must remember that air-cooled engines are highly sensitive to altitude, humidity, and exhaust backpressure. We highly recommend performing a "plug chop" after your first spirited drive. If your spark plugs look white or blistered, you are running lean and may need to step up to a larger main jet. Conversely, if they are soot-black, you might need to drop your idle jet size. Because this is an IDF-style carb, it uses standard Weber-style jets, making it incredibly easy to find the exact brass you need to dial in your specific engine for maximum longevity and power.
2. Prevent Intake Manifold Icing
One of the most common issues with single center-mount carburetors on VW engines is "manifold icing." Because the fuel-air mixture has a long distance to travel from the center of the engine to the heads, the intake can get extremely cold, causing fuel to drop out of suspension and creating a stumble or "flat spot" during acceleration. To prevent this, ensure that your exhaust system has functional heat riser flanges and that they are securely connected to the intake manifold. For those in colder climates, ensuring that your engine tin is complete and your thermostat system is operational will help maintain the ambient engine bay temperature necessary for optimal atomization in a single-carb setup.
3. Check Linkage and Shroud Clearance
Before you tighten everything down, pay close attention to the throttle linkage geometry. On many Type 1 engines, the 44mm IDF body is significantly larger than the stock 34-PICT, and the linkage can sometimes rub against the alternator or the fan shroud. We recommend using a high-quality throttle cable and ensuring there is no binding throughout the entire range of motion from idle to Wide Open Throttle (WOT). If you encounter clearance issues with the air cleaner, you may need to slightly "clearance" the fan shroud with a rubber mallet or adjust the manifold seating. A smooth, non-binding linkage is the difference between a car that is a joy to drive and one that is frustrating at every stoplight.
