The EMPI 00-3739-0 spark arrestor discs are designed for universal fitment on 4-inch tunable exhaust systems. These are most commonly utilized on Aircooled VW applications including Dune Buggies, Sand Rails, Baja Bugs, and Manx-style shells equipped with EMPI or SuperTrapp style mufflers. They are compatible with Type 1, 2, and 3 engines using performance off-road exhaust systems.

Professional Installation & Tuning Tips

Fine-Tune Your Power Band: These discs allow you to tune your engine's backpressure. Adding more discs increases the exhaust flow and volume, which generally improves top-end horsepower. Conversely, removing discs increases backpressure, which can help improve low-end torque and significantly quiet the exhaust note for neighborhood driving.

Anti-Seize is Essential: Before assembling your disc stack, apply a high-temperature copper anti-seize to the threads of the long mounting bolts. Because these components are subjected to extreme heat cycles and environmental debris, the stainless steel hardware is prone to galling or seizing. This simple step ensures you can easily add or remove discs in the future without snapping a bolt.

Maintain Legal Compliance: If you are operating on public lands, Bureau of Land Management (BLM) areas, or National Forests, ensure your stack is properly maintained. Carbon buildup can eventually clog the gaps between the discs, increasing heat and reducing performance. Periodically disassemble the stack and clean the discs with a wire brush to ensure they continue to function as a legal spark arrestor and prevent potential fire hazards.
