1. Fluid Selection and Seal Integrity
It is absolutely critical that you use ONLY DOT 3 brake fluid with this pedal kit. Many modern racing fluids or synthetic DOT 5 fluids contain chemical additives that can cause the internal seals of these economy master cylinders to swell or degrade prematurely. Using the incorrect fluid will lead to a "spongy" pedal feel or a complete loss of hydraulic pressure. Before installation, ensure your lines are flushed of any old fluid to prevent cross-contamination that could compromise the system''s longevity.
2. Structural Mounting and Floor Reinforcement
Because this is a floor-mounted assembly, the pressure applied during emergency braking can exert significant leverage on your mounting surface. If you are installing this in a fiberglass buggy or a thin-gauge sheet metal floor, you must use a reinforcement plate underneath the mounting area. We recommend a 3/16-inch steel backing plate to sandwich the floorboard. This prevents "pedal flex," which not only improves braking feel but also prevents the metal from fatiguing and cracking over time under heavy foot pressure.
3. Slave Cylinder Compatibility and Bleeding
While this kit includes the master cylinders, the slave cylinder is sold separately. When pairing this kit with a hydraulic clutch slave, ensure the slave cylinder also utilizes a compatible bore size to maintain proper pedal travel. When bleeding the system, always start with the master cylinder furthest from the reservoir. Because these units are compact, air bubbles can sometimes get trapped in the 1/8-inch NPT fittings; we recommend "bench bleeding" the master cylinders before they are fully bolted into the vehicle to ensure a rock-solid pedal from the very first drive.
