This EMPI tow bar (Part #5558) is specifically designed for the Volkswagen Super Beetle equipped with MacPherson strut front suspensions. Constructed from 1.5-inch steel tubing, it features a 22-3/4 inch spread between the mounting tabs. This unit is compatible with a 2-inch hitch ball. Please note that this product includes the tow bar only; the specific Super Beetle mounting bracket that bolts to the underside of the suspension is required for installation and is sold separately.

Refinish for Longevity: These tow bars are shipped in raw steel with a very thin layer of paint intended only to prevent rust during storage and transit. For maximum durability and to prevent corrosion, we recommend sanding the bar and applying a high-quality chassis paint or powder coating before installation.

Check Your Hardware: Towing creates constant vibration that can loosen fasteners over time. Always inspect the mounting plate bolts on your Super Beetle and the coupler mechanism before every trip. Ensure the safety pins are fully seated and that the 2-inch ball is locked securely in the coupler.

Mind the Turning Radius: When towing a VW with a tow bar, remember that the towed vehicle must be able to "track" behind the lead vehicle. Ensure your front tires are properly inflated and the steering column is unlocked (key in the 'on' or 'acc' position) to allow the wheels to turn freely, preventing tire scrubbing or mechanical strain during corners.
