This high-performance sideflow exhaust system is specifically engineered for the Aircooled Volkswagen Beetle (Type 1). It features 1-5/8 inch tubing with a true 4-into-1 merged collector for maximum exhaust scavenging. Please note that this system is designed for performance applications and is not compatible with factory heater boxes; it must be used with J-tubes.

Pro Tech Tips for Installation

Apply a Protective Coating: This system is shipped in raw steel, which will begin to surface rust almost immediately if left unprotected. Before installation, thoroughly degrease the pipes and apply a high-quality, high-temperature header paint or have the system ceramic coated to prevent corrosion and extend the life of the metal.

Verify Flange Alignment: While these headers feature thick mounting flanges for a superior seal, always check the exhaust studs on your cylinder heads for any warping or debris. Use the included gaskets, and for an extra layer of protection against leaks, a thin bead of high-temp copper RTV sealant can be used on both sides of the gasket during assembly.

Tune for Increased Flow: Upgrading from a stock exhaust to a 1-5/8" merged collector system significantly changes the volumetric efficiency of your engine. After installation, check your spark plugs for a "lean" condition (white/ashy appearance). You will likely need to re-jet your carburetor(s) to account for the improved exhaust flow to ensure the engine doesn't run too hot.
