OVERVIEW
Elevate your air-cooled engine''s performance to the next level with the Scat 1.25 Ratio Forged Rocker Arm Assembly. This high-performance kit is engineered for the VW enthusiast who demands more lift and better airflow without the intensive labor of splitting the case to install a high-lift camshaft. By increasing the rocker arm ratio from the stock 1.1:1 to a more aggressive 1.25:1, you are effectively increasing the valve lift by approximately 13.6%. This allows your engine to breathe significantly better at higher RPMs, resulting in a noticeable gain in horsepower and torque across the powerband. Unlike stock cast rockers that can flex or even fail under high-stress conditions, these SCAT components are manufactured from high-strength forged steel, providing the structural integrity needed for high-performance street builds and weekend track warriors alike.
The SCAT 20188S kit is a comprehensive solution designed to eliminate the common weak points in the Volkswagen valvetrain. Included in this assembly are heavy-duty billet rocker shafts that replace the flimsy stock versions, ensuring that your rocker arms remain perfectly aligned even under the pressure of high-lift springs. One of the standout features of this kit is the inclusion of swivel-foot adjusting screws, often referred to as ''elephant feet.'' These adjusters provide a much larger contact surface on the valve stem, which drastically reduces side-loading and premature wear on your valve guides. Combined with the included mounting blocks, high-strength studs, and a precision shim assortment for custom spacing, this kit provides everything a master builder needs to achieve perfect valvetrain geometry and long-term reliability in a Type 1 based engine.

PRO TIPS
PRO TIP 1: Verify Valvetrain Geometry and Pushrod Length
When switching from stock 1.1:1 rockers to Scat''s 1.25:1 forged rockers, your valvetrain geometry will change. It is absolutely critical to check your pushrod length during installation. Because the rocker arm geometry is different, you may find that your stock pushrods are either too short or too long to achieve the proper contact arc on the valve stem. We highly recommend using an adjustable checking pushrod to find the exact length needed so that the swivel foot is centered on the valve tip at half-lift. This ensures maximum lift efficiency and prevents accelerated wear on your valve guides and stems.
PRO TIP 2: Check for Coil Bind and Valve-to-Piston Clearance
Increasing your rocker ratio means your valves are opening further into the combustion chamber. Before you fire up the engine, you must perform a "dry fit" to ensure you have adequate clearance. Check for coil bind in your valve springs; the higher lift might compress the springs to their solid height, which will cause catastrophic engine failure. Additionally, always check the clearance between the valve head and the piston crown at Top Dead Center (TDC). A minimum clearance of .060" to .080" is generally recommended to account for heat expansion and high-RPM rod stretch.
PRO TIP 3: Clearancing Valve Covers and Proper Lubrication
Due to the beefier forged design and the added height of the swivel-foot adjusters, these rockers are physically larger than the stock units. It is very common to encounter interference with the inside of stock stamped-steel valve covers. We recommend using a set of high-profile "bolt-on" aluminum valve covers to provide the necessary room. During assembly, be sure to use a high-quality moly-based assembly lube on the rocker shafts and the swivel feet. Do not rely on initial oil pressure to lubricate these parts on the first start-up, as the friction generated during the first few seconds can gall the bronze bushings.
