OVERVIEW
Upgrade your off-road machine with the ultimate suspension enhancement: our 2-inch wider by 3-inch longer DOM Steel Rear Trailing Arms for IRS. Designed specifically for the air-cooled enthusiast who demands more than what factory stamped-steel components can offer, these arms provide a significant increase in both stability and suspension travel. By pushing the rear wheels back 3 inches and out 2 inches, you effectively lengthen your wheelbase and widen your track, which transforms the handling characteristics of your Baja Bug, sand rail, or dune buggy. This increased footprint allows for better high-speed tracking through the rough stuff and provides the necessary clearance for larger, more aggressive off-road tires that would otherwise rub against the inner wheel wells or stock suspension components.
Construction quality is paramount when you''re airing out your ride or tackling technical trails, which is why these trailing arms are fabricated from high-grade DOM (Drawn Over Mandrel) steel. Unlike standard welded pipe, DOM steel offers superior structural integrity and resistance to bending or twisting under extreme loads. To further ensure long-term durability and precision, these arms feature high-strength Chromoly bearing carriers. These carriers are designed to withstand the immense torque and lateral forces generated by high-performance air-cooled engines and rugged terrain. Please note that these arms come without shock bosses, providing the fabricator with the flexibility to custom-mount shocks for optimal geometry and maximum travel. If you''re tired of dealing with bent or broken stock IRS arms, this heavy-duty kit is the professional-grade solution you''ve been searching for.

PRO TIPS
1. Calculate Your Axle Length Carefully
When you move to a 2x3 trailing arm setup, your stock VW axles will no longer fit. Because you have moved the bearing carrier 3 inches back and 2 inches out, the distance between the transaxle and the wheel hub has increased significantly. You will typically need custom-length axles, often paired with 930-style CV joints to handle the increased angles and travel. Always mock up your suspension at full droop and full compression before ordering your axles to ensure you have the correct "float" in the CV joints to prevent binding or snapping.
2. Precision Shock Boss Placement
Since these arms are shipped without shock bosses, you have the opportunity to tune your suspension geometry perfectly. When welding your shock mounts, it is critical to cycle the suspension through its entire range of motion without the spring or torsion bar installed. Ensure the shock does not "bottom out" before the suspension hits its physical limit, and conversely, ensure the shock doesn''t act as the "down-stop." Using a limit strap in conjunction with these arms is highly recommended to protect your CV joints and shock internals from damage during hard landings.
3. Check for Body and Fender Clearance
Moving the wheels 3 inches back and 2 inches out significantly changes where the tire sits in relation to the vehicle body. On a standard VW Beetle or Baja Bug, this usually requires "clearancing" the rear fenders or moving to wider fiberglass baja fenders. Additionally, check the clearance near the inner fender wells and the torsion housing. Since the arms are wider, you may need to adjust your brake line lengths and emergency brake cables to accommodate the new distance. Always use high-quality urethane or delrin bushings at the pivot points to ensure the arms maintain their alignment under heavy off-road use.
