The EMPI Quiet Muffler is designed specifically for Volkswagen Baja Bug and Dune Buggy applications where noise reduction is a priority without sacrificing the rugged off-road look. This muffler is engineered to fit EMPI 3-bolt flange Baja headers. Please note that the black finish provided is a temporary storage coating intended to prevent rust during shipping and is not a final heat-resistant finish.

Vehicle Fitment & Compatibility

This muffler is compatible with Aircooled Type 1 engines used in the following configurations:

• VW Beetle (Baja Bug Conversions)
• VW Dune Buggies and Sand Rails
• Compatible with stock heater boxes or J-Tubes
• Requires connector pipe part number 00-3468-0 to link the muffler to the header
• Fits standard EMPI 3-bolt flange patterns

Pro Tech Tips

Tip 1: Prep the Surface. The black paint on this muffler is only for rust prevention during storage and will burn off immediately once the engine reaches operating temperature. For a long-lasting look, sand off the storage paint and apply a high-quality, high-temperature header paint or ceramic coating before installation.

Tip 2: Mandatory Connector Pipe. This muffler cannot be bolted directly to your 3-bolt Baja header. You must use the 00-3468-0 connector pipe. Ensure you have this component on hand to avoid installation delays, as it provides the necessary clearance and positioning for the muffler body.

Tip 3: Prevent Exhaust Leaks. When assembling the 3-bolt flange, always use a new gasket and a small bead of high-temp RTV silicone sensor-safe sealant. This ensures a gas-tight seal, preventing the annoying popping sounds often associated with exhaust leaks on aircooled VW engines.
