OVERVIEW
When you''re pushing a high-compression air-cooled VW engine to its absolute limits, your ignition system becomes the literal heartbeat of the machine. The MSD 8467 Rotor is engineered to thrive in the brutal environment of a high-performance engine bay, where extreme vibration and heat are constant enemies of electrical consistency. Unlike standard replacement rotors that often fail under the intense stress of a high-output ignition coil, this MSD rotor serves as the gold standard for most MSD Pro-Billet distributors. Whether you are piloting a weekend warrior drag Beetle or a sand-shredding dune buggy, this rotor ensures that every high-voltage pulse is delivered with surgical precision. By utilizing advanced injection-molding techniques and premium materials, MSD has created a component that does not just sit in the distributor; it actively manages the electrical environment to maximize combustion efficiency and throttle response.
Strength and dielectric properties are the primary focus of the MSD 8467 engineering team. Constructed from Rynite, a high-performance reinforced polyester resin, this rotor offers incredible structural integrity and superior resistance to electrical leakage or carbon tracking. One of the most critical features is the stainless steel and brass rotor tip, which is physically screwed into place rather than simply riveted or glued. This mechanical fastening is vital for high-RPM applications where centrifugal force can cause lesser rotors to flex or fail entirely. Furthermore, the rotor features deep molded vanes designed to aggressively stir the air inside the distributor cap. This air movement is essential for preventing spark ionizationa common cause of cross-firing and high-speed engine hesitation. With mounting screws set deep within the housing to eliminate spark scatter, this rotor ensures that your high-voltage energy stays exactly where it belongs until it hits the spark plug gap.
FITMENT
This MSD Rotor is designed specifically for high-performance applications and is compatible with the following components and vehicles utilizing MSD Pro-Billet Distributor systems:

PRO TIPS
Pro Tip 1: Inspect for Carbon Tracking Regularly. Because high-output ignition systems like MSD generate significantly more voltage than a stock Bosch system, the environment inside your distributor cap is much more volatile. Every time you change your oil, take a moment to pop the cap and look for thin, black "spider web" lines on the rotor body. These are carbon tracks where electricity has found a path to ground. If you see them, replace the rotor immediately and check that your spark plug wires are fully seated and in good condition, as high resistance in the wires often causes the spark to look for an alternative path inside the cap.
Pro Tip 2: Don''t Over-Tighten the Mounting Screws. While the screw-down design of the MSD 8467 is a massive upgrade over "push-fit" rotors, the Rynite material can be cracked if you use too much muscle during installation. Use a high-quality screwdriver that fits the head perfectly and tighten them until they are snug. For added peace of mind in high-vibration off-road or racing environments, a tiny drop of blue (removable) thread locker on the screw threads will prevent them from backing out without requiring excessive torque that could damage the rotor housing.
Pro Tip 3: Maintain the Proper Rotor-to-Cap Gap. For maximum performance, the distance between the rotor tip and the distributor cap terminals should be consistent. When installing a new MSD rotor, it is a great practice to also install a fresh MSD distributor cap (8433 or 8431). Mixing a new rotor with a worn, pitted distributor cap can lead to increased resistance, which generates heat and reduces the energy reaching your spark plugs. Always ensure the brass tip is clean and free of oxidation before closing the assembly to ensure the hottest spark possible for your air-cooled powerplant.
