1. Verify Thread Integrity: Before installing the new adjuster, clean the threads inside the rocker arm thoroughly. If you feel any resistance or grit, use a 5/16-24 tap to chase the threads. This ensures smooth adjustment and prevents galling during the valve setting process.

2. Check for Mushrooming: During routine maintenance, inspect the tip of the adjuster that contacts the valve stem. If the tip appears flattened or "mushroomed," replace it immediately. A worn adjuster tip can cause uneven valve lift and accelerated wear on the valve stem itself.

3. Proper Jam Nut Torque: When locking down your valve lash settings, ensure the jam nut is tightened firmly while holding the adjuster screw stationary with a screwdriver. Overtightening can strip the 5/16-24 threads, while undertightening can allow the adjuster to back out, leading to excessive engine noise and potential mechanical failure.
