OVERVIEW
When you are upgrading your air-cooled VW''s braking system or plumbing a high-performance oiling circuit, the transition from standard components to professional-grade braided lines requires the absolute best hardware. These Allstar Performance adapter fittings are the industry standard for converting a 1/8-inch NPT port into a -3 AN male flare. In the world of vintage Volkswagens, where precision is paramount and the environment can range from dusty desert trails to high-heat street environments, these steel adapters provide the structural integrity that aluminum simply cannot match. Whether you are installing a custom set of disc brakes on a link-pin front end or setting up a remote oil pressure gauge on a Type 1 engine case, these fittings ensure a leak-free, high-pressure seal that will withstand the rigors of performance driving.
The beauty of the ALL50000 kit lies in its robust construction and versatility. Unlike cheap off-brand fittings that can strip or crack under torque, these are manufactured from high-quality steel with a protective finish to prevent corrosion. The 1/8-inch NPT side features a tapered pipe thread designed to create a tight seal within engine blocks, brake calipers, or manifold blocks, while the -3 AN side provides the perfect mating surface for braided stainless steel brake lines or oil hoses. This 2-pack is an essential addition to any VW builder''s toolbox, offering the reliability needed for critical systems where failure is not an option. From Sand Rails and Baja Bugs to show-quality Karmann Ghias, these adapters bridge the gap between stock limitations and modern performance standards.

PRO TIPS
1. Seal the NPT Side Correctly
When installing these adapters, remember that the 1/8-inch NPT side is a tapered thread that requires a sealant to prevent leaks. I always recommend using a high-quality PTFE (Teflon) paste or a specialized thread sealant rather than tape. If you must use Teflon tape, ensure you leave the first two threads bare to prevent any shreds of tape from entering your brake lines or oil galleries. This is especially critical in VW oiling systems, as a small piece of tape can easily clog an oil squirter or a lifter galley, leading to catastrophic engine failure. Always tighten the NPT side until it is snug, but do not over-torque, as you can crack a cast aluminum engine case or a brake caliper body if you apply too much leverage.
2. Never Lubricate the AN Flare
One of the most common mistakes I see in the shop is people putting sealant or grease on the -3 AN male flare. The AN (Army-Navy) standard relies on a metal-to-metal 37-degree flare seat to create a seal. Adding any type of thread sealant to the AN side will actually interfere with the seating process and can cause a persistent leak. Keep the flare surfaces clean and dry. When you connect your braided line to this adapter, you should be able to thread the nut on by hand almost all the way to the seat. If you feel resistance early on, stop and check for cross-threading. Once seated, a simple quarter-turn with a wrench is usually all it takes to lock the seal.
3. Choose Steel for Safety
In the air-cooled VW world, many guys are tempted to use aluminum fittings because they are lightweight and come in flashy colors. However, for brake systems and high-vibration engine components, steel is the only way to go. Aluminum fittings are prone to "galling" (where the threads seize together) and can fatigue over time when subjected to the constant heat cycles of a VW engine or the high hydraulic pressures of a panic stop. These Allstar Performance steel fittings offer a much higher safety margin. If you are building a car that will see dirt, sand, or heavy street use, stick with the steel ALL50000 adapters to ensure your brake pedal stays firm and your oil stays inside the engine where it belongs.
