Half Clamp Cable Hold Down - Secure Mounting for Push-Pull Throttle Cables
Ensure your throttle response remains crisp and consistent with the Half Clamp Cable Hold Down from Appletree Auto. Specifically designed for use with high-performance push-pull cables (such as Morse or Teleflex styles), this hold-down clamp is a critical component for any custom air-cooled project. Its primary function is to securely anchor the outer jacket of the throttle cable to your mounting bracket or chassis, preventing the housing from shifting and ensuring that all pedal movement is translated directly to the carburetor linkage.
Constructed from durable Aluminum, this half-clamp is built to survive the high-vibration and debris-heavy environments of off-road racing and street cruising. The low-profile design allows for clean routing in tight engine bays or along chassis tubes. Whether you are plumbing a dual-carb setup on a Sand Rail or upgrading a Baja Bug to a cable-driven throttle, Appletree Auto provides the professional-grade hardware required for a reliable and safe mechanical connection.
Product Fitment & Compatibility
This is a universal fabrication component designed for standard 33C style push-pull cables. While it is not a "bolt-on" for stock Volkswagen floor pans, it is the industry standard for custom throttle configurations on Type 1 based vehicles.
- Custom Sand Rails & Dune Buggies: All Years & Models (For push-pull throttle setups)
- Baja Bugs: Ideal for custom rear-engine throttle mounting
- Volkswagen Beetle: Custom performance builds using Morse-style cables
- Volkswagen Karmann Ghia: Custom performance builds using Morse-style cables
- Off-Road Racing Chassis: Universal application for shift or throttle cable retention
Tech Tips & Installation Advice
- Avoid Cable Crushing: When tightening the hold-down bolt, ensure the clamp is snug enough to prevent the cable housing from sliding, but do not over-tighten. Excessive pressure can deform the outer jacket of the cable, leading to internal friction, a "sticky" throttle, or premature cable failure.
- Alignment is Critical: Position the clamp so the inner wire of the push-pull cable exits in a perfectly straight line toward the carburetor or EFI linkage. Any side-loading or sharp angles at the exit point will cause the cable to bind and fray over time.
- Double Up for Security: For longer cable runs or high-vibration off-road applications, we recommend using a hold-down clamp at both ends of the cable—one near the pedal assembly and one near the engine. This ensures the entire cable system remains stationary during aggressive maneuvers.
- Check for Full Travel: After securing the clamp, have an assistant depress the gas pedal through its full range of motion. Verify that the cable housing remains perfectly stationary in the clamp while the inner wire moves freely to achieve Wide Open Throttle (WOT).
