Cable Hook Hold Down for Push-Pull Throttle Cables
Ensure your custom throttle system is secure and reliable with the Cable Hook Hold Down from Appletree Auto. Designed specifically for high-performance push-pull cables (standard 33C style), this hook-style clamp is a vital component for any custom air-cooled project. Its primary function is to anchor the grooved neck of the throttle cable housing to your mounting bracket or chassis, preventing the outer jacket from moving so that all your pedal input is translated directly into engine acceleration.
Constructed from durable, zinc-plated steel, this hold-down is built to withstand the high-vibration and extreme conditions found in off-road racing and street cruising. The "hook" design provides a positive mechanical lock into the groove of the cable housing, offering more security than a standard flat clamp. Whether you are building a dual-carburetor Sand Rail or a custom Baja Bug, Appletree Auto provides the professional-grade hardware required for a robust and safe mechanical connection.
Product Fitment & Compatibility
This is a universal fabrication component designed for standard 33C style (Morse or Teleflex) push-pull cables. It is the industry standard for custom throttle, shift, and control configurations on Type 1 based vehicles.
- Custom Sand Rails & Dune Buggies: All Years & Models (For push-pull throttle setups)
- Baja Bugs: Ideal for custom rear-engine throttle and shift mounting
- Volkswagen Beetle: Performance builds using Morse-style cables
- Volkswagen Karmann Ghia: Custom performance configurations
- Off-Road Racing Chassis: Universal application for 33C cable retention
Tech Tips & Installation Advice
- Proper Alignment: When mounting the hook hold-down, ensure it is aligned so the cable exits in a perfectly straight line toward the carburetor or pedal linkage. If the cable is held at an angle, it will cause internal friction, leading to a "heavy" pedal feel and premature cable wear.
- Secure the Nut: Because this component is subject to constant engine vibration, we recommend using a nylock nut or a small dab of blue thread-locker on the mounting bolt. This prevents the clamp from loosening, which could cause the throttle to become unresponsive.
- Cable Groove Seating: Ensure the "hook" portion of the clamp is seated fully within the groove of the cable's mounting hub. This mechanical interface is what prevents the cable housing from sliding back and forth during throttle operation.
- Inspect for Chafing: Periodically check the area around the clamp to ensure the cable housing is not rubbing against any sharp metal edges or hot exhaust components. Use protective loom or heat shielding if the cable must pass near the headers.
- Wide Open Throttle (WOT) Check: After securing the hold-down, have an assistant fully depress the gas pedal. Verify that the cable housing remains completely stationary in the clamp while the inner wire moves freely to achieve full throttle at the carburetor.
