Clevis and Pin for Push-Pull Throttle Cables - Heavy-Duty Linkage Connector
Ensure a rock-solid connection for your custom throttle or shift linkage with the Clevis and Pin Assembly from Appletree Auto. Designed specifically for use with high-performance push-pull cables (standard 10-32 threaded ends), this clevis provides a secure, mechanical attachment point for your carburetor linkage or pedal assembly. Unlike standard ball joints, a clevis setup offers a high degree of linear strength, making it the preferred choice for rugged off-road applications where reliability is non-negotiable.
Manufactured from high-strength steel with a corrosion-resistant finish, this assembly includes the threaded clevis, a precision-fit clevis pin, and a secure cotter pin or clip. The 10-32 internal threading ensures a perfect fit for 3/16" push-pull cable ends, providing a "no-slop" connection that translates into crisp, responsive throttle control. Whether you are plumbing a new throttle system in a Sand Rail or building a custom shift linkage for a Baja Bug, Appletree Auto delivers the professional-grade hardware required for the job.
Product Fitment & Compatibility
This is a universal fabrication component designed for 10-32 threaded push-pull cables. It is the industry standard for custom throttle and mechanical control systems on Type 1 based vehicles.
- Custom Sand Rails & Dune Buggies: All Years & Models (For push-pull cable linkages)
- Volkswagen Beetle (Standard & Super): Performance builds using Morse-style cables
- Volkswagen Karmann Ghia: Custom dual-carburetor or mechanical linkage setups
- Baja Bugs: Ideal for high-vibration off-road throttle and shift applications
- Volkswagen Bus / Transporter (Type 2): Custom mechanical control conversions
- Off-Road Racing Chassis: Universal 10-32 (3/16") cable end applications
Tech Tips & Installation Advice
- Secure the Pin: Always ensure the cotter pin or retaining clip is fully installed and spread properly. In a high-vibration environment like an air-cooled engine bay, a missing clip can cause the clevis pin to vibrate out, leading to an immediate loss of throttle control.
- Thread Adjustment: For maximum safety, ensure the clevis is threaded onto the cable end at least 1/2". Use a 10-32 jam nut against the base of the clevis to prevent it from spinning or vibrating loose once your linkage length is set.
- Avoid Side-Loading: A clevis is designed for "pulling" in a straight line. Ensure your mounting tab is aligned perfectly with the cable's path of travel. Side-loading the clevis can cause the cable end to bend or the pin to wear unevenly, leading to a "sticky" throttle feel.
- Check for Clearance: Manually move your throttle linkage through its full range of motion. Ensure the clevis body does not strike any part of the carburetor, manifold, or fan shroud at Wide Open Throttle (WOT) or at full idle.
- Lubrication: Apply a small dab of high-quality grease to the clevis pin where it passes through the mounting tab. This reduces friction and prevents the metal-on-metal wear that can create "slop" in your throttle response over time.
