OVERVIEW
When it comes to the safety and reliability of your classic air-cooled Volkswagen, nothing is more critical than the hydraulic system that brings your vehicle to a halt. This Premium Dual Circuit Master Cylinder, part number 113-611-015BDP, represents a significant upgrade in both engineering and safety for your vintage Beetle or Karmann Ghia. Unlike the original single-circuit systems found on earlier models, this dual-circuit design provides a vital safety redundancy; if one line or wheel cylinder fails, the remaining circuit stays pressurized, ensuring you still have braking power to safely stop the vehicle. Manufactured to exacting standards by Foreign Parts Distributors, this premium version features superior internal seals and a high-tolerance bore finish that far exceeds standard economy replacements, providing a firm, consistent pedal feel that every VW enthusiast demands.
Restoring a classic VW isn''t just about the aesthetics; it''s about ensuring the mechanical integrity of the car for years of worry-free cruising. This master cylinder is specifically designed for the transition years where Volkswagen moved toward more modern safety standards. It features a 19.05mm bore that is perfectly matched to the volume requirements of drum-to-drum or front disc/rear drum configurations commonly found on 1967 and later Type 1 chassis. Whether you are performing a ground-up restoration or simply performing essential maintenance on your daily driver, installing this premium master cylinder means you are choosing longevity. At Appletree Automotive, we understand that "good enough" isn''t in the vocabulary of a true air-cooled specialist, which is why we offer this high-grade component to keep your classic Beetle or Ghia stopping on a dime every time you hit the pedal.

PRO TIPS
1. Bench Bleeding is Mandatory: Before you ever bolt this master cylinder into your VW''s chassis, you must perform a "bench bleed." This process involves securing the master cylinder in a vise, filling it with fluid, and using a kit to loop the outlet ports back into the reservoir holes. By manually stroking the piston until all air bubbles disappear, you ensure that the internal chambers are fully primed. If you skip this step, it is nearly impossible to remove trapped air using the wheel bleeders alone, resulting in a soft, spongy pedal that won''t provide adequate stopping power.
2. Inspect and Adjust the Pushrod: One of the most common mistakes during installation is failing to check the clearance between the brake pedal pushrod and the master cylinder piston. There should be approximately 1mm of "free play" before the pushrod makes contact with the piston. If the pushrod is too long, the internal ports won''t uncover, causing the brakes to "pump up" and drag as the fluid heats up and expands. Always verify that your pedal assembly is clean, lubricated, and that the return spring is strong enough to pull the pedal back to its stop.
3. Replace Your Brake Light Switches and Grommets: Since the master cylinder is tucked away in the front trunk/chassis area, it''s a pain to access once everything is installed. We highly recommend installing brand new German-made brake light switches and fresh rubber reservoir grommets at the same time. Old grommets often become brittle and are a leading cause of slow fluid leaks that ruin your chassis paint. Using fresh, high-quality switches ensures your brake lights trigger instantly when the pedal is pressed, keeping you visible and safe on the road.
