OVERVIEW
When your air-cooled engine starts stumbling, hesitating, or suffering from a rough idle, the culprit is almost always a tired and gummed-up carburetor. The EMPI Master Carburetor Rebuild Kit for the Weber 32/36 DGV, DGAV, and DGEV series is the ultimate solution for enthusiasts who demand precision and reliability from their progressive carburetor setups. Unlike basic "tune-up" kits that only provide the bare essentials, this master kit is a comprehensive overhaul package designed to bring your induction system back to its original factory performance levels. Whether you are running a manual, water, or electric choke version of the iconic 32/36, this kit provides the high-quality components necessary to seal leaks, restore fuel metering accuracy, and eliminate those frustrating flat spots during acceleration. It''s an essential investment for any VW owner running a progressive carb conversion on their Beetle, Bus, or Ghia, ensuring that your fuel-to-air ratio remains crisp and consistent across the entire power band.
What sets this Master Rebuild Kit apart from the competition is the inclusion of the carburetor float, a component often overlooked but critical to preventing flooding and fuel starvation. Over time, brass or plastic floats can develop leaks or become heavy, leading to incorrect fuel levels in the bowl that wreak havoc on your engine''s tuning. By including a fresh float along with premium gaskets, a new needle and seat, and high-quality diaphragms, EMPI ensures that you aren''t just putting a "band-aid" on your Weber, but actually restoring its mechanical integrity. This kit is manufactured to exacting tolerances to match the original Italian and Spanish Weber specifications, as well as EMPI''s own EPC and HPMX series. If you are tired of chasing phantom vacuum leaks or struggling with a carburetor that refuses to stay in tune, this master kit offers the peace of mind that comes with a complete, professional-grade rebuild.

SPECIALIST PRO TIPS
Tip 1: The Importance of Deep Cleaning and Compressed Air
Simply replacing the parts in this kit isn''t enough to ensure a perfect rebuild. You must thoroughly clean the carburetor body using a dedicated carburetor dip or spray. Once the carb is disassembled, pay special attention to the tiny internal passages and emulsion tubes. After soaking, use high-pressure compressed air to blow out every single orifice. If a tiny piece of debris remains lodged in a jet or a transition port, your engine will still have a stumble regardless of how many new parts you install. Always wear eye protection during this process, as carb cleaner can spray back unexpectedly!
Tip 2: Set Your Float Level Precisely
Since this Master Kit includes a brand-new float, it is absolutely vital that you set the float height according to factory Weber specifications before closing the top cover. For most 32/36 DGV series carbs, the "closed" position (with the needle seated) should typically be around 35mm to 38.5mm, and the "drop" (fully open) should be around 51mm, though you should always verify the specific spec for your exact sub-model. An incorrectly set float will cause the carburetor to either overflow (running rich and flooding) or run out of fuel during high-load situations. Take the time to measure twice and bend the adjustment tab carefully.
Tip 3: Inspect Your Intake Manifold for Vacuum Leaks
While you have the carburetor off the engine for the rebuild, it is the perfect time to inspect your intake manifold and the base adapter plate. Progressive Weber setups on air-cooled VWs are notorious for developing vacuum leaks at the base gasket or where the manifold sections join together. Use a straight edge to ensure the mounting surfaces are perfectly flat. If the base plate is warped, it will suck air and make it impossible to achieve a smooth idle. Always use the new base gasket included in this EMPI kit and torque the mounting nuts evenly to avoid distorting the carburetor body.
