OVERVIEW
Transform your air-cooled Volkswagen''s stance and handling with the ultimate suspension upgrade: the EMPI Complete Beam in a Box. This isn''t just a collection of parts; it is a meticulously engineered, pre-assembled front-end solution designed for the enthusiast who demands a low-profile look without compromising the structural integrity of their classic ride. By combining a stock-width adjustable ball joint beam with premium 2.5-inch forged drop spindles, EMPI has created the perfect recipe for a "slammed" appearance that retains full suspension travel. This means you can achieve that aggressive, tucked-wheel look while avoiding the harsh, bouncy ride typically associated with simply cranking down an adjuster. Every component is brand new, eliminating the need to source core parts or struggle with decades of rust and grime on your original factory assembly.
Precision and safety are at the forefront of this comprehensive kit. The assembly features heavy-duty forged trailing arms equipped with high-quality Euro-spec ball joints, ensuring smooth articulation and long-term durability. Inside the beam, you will find new torsion leaf stacks, fresh needle bearings, and high-pressure seals, all pre-packed with premium grease. The inclusion of forged disc brake drop spindles provides a rock-solid foundation for modern braking performance, moving the axle center point upward to lower the vehicle while keeping the steering geometry in check. Whether you are finishing a ground-up restoration or upgrading a daily driver, this "Beam in a Box" arrives with all fasteners torqued to factory specifications, significantly reducing installation time and providing the peace of mind that comes from a professionally built front end from the leaders in VW performance.

PRO TIPS
1. Optimize Your Geometry with Caster Shims
When you lower a Volkswagen, the front-end geometry changes, often resulting in a "darty" or unstable feeling at high speeds due to a loss of positive caster. To ensure your VW tracks straight and true, we highly recommend installing a set of caster shims between the lower beam tube and the frame head. These simple shims tilt the beam slightly backward, restoring the necessary caster angle that is often lost when the vehicle''s rake is altered. This small addition makes a world of difference in highway stability and steering wheel return-to-center feel.
2. Verify Wheel and Tire Clearance
The forged drop spindles included in this kit move the wheel mounting surface outward by approximately 1/4-inch per side compared to stock drum spindles. While this is a minor increase, it can be the difference between a perfect fit and a tire rub if you are running wide wheels or oversized tires. Before your first test drive, check for clearance at full steering lock and under compression. If you experience rubbing on the fender lip, consider using a narrower "low-profile" tire or a wheel with a higher positive offset to keep the rubber tucked safely inside the wheel wells.
3. Don''t Overlook the Break-In Grease Cycle
While this beam comes pre-greased and ready for installation, the "settling-in" period of new torsion leaves and needle bearings is critical. After the first 100 to 200 miles of driving, we recommend giving each of the four grease zerks a few pumps of high-quality moly-based grease. This ensures that any air pockets are filled and that the grease is evenly distributed across the bearing surfaces now that the suspension has cycled through its full range of motion. Regular greasing every 3,000 miles or once a season will dramatically extend the life of your ball joints and internal beam bearings.
