This EMPI carb spacer is designed for Air-cooled VW Type 1 (Beetle, Karmann Ghia) and Type 2 (Bus) models equipped with Solex or Brosol 28 or 30 PICT carburetors. It is specifically engineered for single-port engines that require additional clearance, most commonly during a generator-to-alternator conversion.

Clearance for Alternator Conversions: When upgrading from a stock generator to a modern alternator, the larger diameter of the alternator housing often interferes with the carburetor throttle linkage. This 1-inch spacer provides the necessary vertical lift to ensure the carb body and linkage operate freely without hitting the alternator.

Seal Integrity and Vacuum Leaks: Always install the included gaskets on both the top and bottom of the spacer. Before assembly, verify that the intake manifold flange and the carburetor base are flat and free of old gasket material. A secure, airtight seal is critical to prevent lean-running conditions and erratic idling caused by vacuum leaks.

Avoid Over-Tightening Hardware: Use the provided extension studs to accommodate the extra inch of height. When securing the nuts, tighten them evenly and avoid excessive torque. Over-tightening can warp the carburetor base or the spacer itself, leading to permanent damage and persistent air leaks at the mounting flange.
