OVERVIEW
When it comes to the heart of your Volkswagen''s drivetrain, the connection between the engine and the transmission is paramount for both performance and comfort. This 200mm Sprung Center Clutch Disc is engineered specifically for the air-cooled enthusiast who demands a smooth, chatter-free driving experience. Unlike rigid discs that are often found in race-only setups, this sprung-hub design features high-quality dampening springs that absorb the initial shock of engagement. This significantly reduces the stress on your transaxle internals and engine mounts, making it the absolute gold standard for daily drivers, weekend cruisers, and restored show cars that see real-world street use.
Crafted to meet or exceed original equipment specifications, this disc utilizes a premium organic friction material that provides a predictable and linear feel at the pedal. The 200mm diameter is the most common size for 1500cc and 1600cc upright engines, offering the ideal surface area for heat dissipation and grip without the heavy pedal effort associated with extreme pressure plates. Whether you are navigating heavy city traffic in a late-model Super Beetle or hauling gear in a vintage Type 2 Bus, this clutch disc ensures that every gear change is crisp, quiet, and reliable. It is the perfect replacement component for anyone looking to restore that factory-fresh shifting feel to their classic VW.
FITMENT
This 200mm sprung clutch disc is designed for Volkswagens equipped with a 200mm flywheel and a 12-volt transmission input shaft. Please verify your flywheel size before ordering, especially on transition-year vehicles.

PRO TIPS
1. Use a Clutch Alignment Tool for Installation
Never attempt to install the pressure plate and disc without a dedicated clutch alignment tool. Even if the disc looks centered to the naked eye, being off by even a fraction of a millimeter will make it nearly impossible to mate the engine to the transmission. If you force the engine onto the input shaft while the disc is misaligned, you risk bending the center hub of your brand-new disc, which will cause permanent dragging and shifting issues. Always torque your pressure plate bolts in a star pattern to ensure even pressure across the disc surface.
2. Clean All Surfaces Thoroughly
Contamination is the number one enemy of a new clutch. Before installing this disc, use a high-quality brake cleaner to wipe down the friction surface of both the flywheel and the pressure plate. Even the oils from your fingerprints or the "packing oil" used to prevent rust during shipping can cause the clutch to slip or chatter. Ensure your rear main seal and transmission input shaft seal are not leaking; if oil reaches this organic friction material, the disc will be ruined and will require replacement.
3. Inspect the Throw-out Bearing and Input Shaft
While you have the engine out, it is the perfect time to inspect the supporting components of the clutch system. Check your throw-out bearing for smoothness; if it feels gritty or makes noise when spun by hand, replace it immediately. Additionally, apply a very light coating of high-temp grease to the splines of the transmission input shaft. This ensures the clutch disc can slide freely back and forth. Be careful not to over-grease, as centrifugal force can sling excess grease onto the friction material once the engine is running.
