Pro Tech Tips for Installation

Tip 1: Identify Your Bearing Style. These clips are strictly for the "early" or "unguided" style throw out bearing. You can identify this by looking at your transmission input shaft; if there is no metal sleeve (guide tube) for the bearing to slide on, you have an unguided system. If your transmission has a guide tube (standard on 1971-later models), these clips will not fit.

Tip 2: Check Release Arm Condition. Before snapping the new clips into place, inspect the holes on the clutch release arm. Over time, these holes can become elongated or "egg-shaped" due to friction. If the holes are badly worn, even new clips may not hold the bearing perfectly centered, which can lead to uneven clutch pedal feel or premature bearing failure.

Tip 3: Secure Seating. When installing, ensure the "tails" of the clips are fully seated and locked over the ears of the release arm. A common mistake is leaving the clip partially seated, which can cause the clip to vibrate off during high-RPM use, potentially requiring you to pull the engine back out to fix a simple attachment issue.
