OVERVIEW
When you''re pushing your air-cooled Volkswagen to its limits, whether it''s on the sand dunes or the open highway, maintaining a leak-free engine is paramount to both performance and longevity. The EMPI Channeled Valve Cover Gaskets are specifically engineered to provide a superior seal for the popular EMPI 00-8852-0 cast aluminum valve covers. Unlike standard cork gaskets that can compress unevenly or fail under high heat, these channeled gaskets are designed to sit perfectly within the groove of your aftermarket covers. This precision fit ensures that oil stays inside the rocker boxes where it belongs, preventing messy leaks that can lead to engine grime, cooling issues, and potential fire hazards. As any master technician will tell you, the small details like a high-quality gasket make the difference between a reliable daily driver and a car that leaves a trail of oil wherever it parks.
Crafted from a durable, heat-resistant material, these gaskets are built to withstand the extreme temperature fluctuations common in the VW air-cooled environment. The "channeled" design is the secret to their success; by locking into the valve cover rail, the gasket remains stable during installation and operation, eliminating the common "slippage" found with flat gaskets on performance heads. Whether you are running a high-lift cam that requires the extra clearance of cast covers or you simply want the aesthetic upgrade of EMPI aluminum, these replacement gaskets are the essential maintenance component for your next oil change or valve adjustment. Don''t let a worn-out seal compromise your engine''s vacuum or cleanliness. Investing in these authentic EMPI replacement seals ensures that your 1600cc to 2332cc powerhouse remains dry, efficient, and ready for the next adventure.

PRO TIPS
1. Proper Channel Preparation
Before installing your new gaskets, it is absolutely vital to ensure the channels in your EMPI 8852 valve covers are completely free of old gasket residue, oil, and debris. Use a small pick or a stiff nylon brush along with a high-quality brake cleaner to strip the channel down to the bare aluminum. If there is even a small amount of old material left behind, the new gasket will not seat evenly, which is the primary cause of "mystery leaks" on channeled covers. A clean surface allows the elastomer to bond slightly with the metal under heat, creating the airtight seal your engine requires.
2. Use a "Tack" Adhesive Only on the Cover Side
To make your next valve adjustment easier, I recommend using a very light smear of Gasket High-Tack or a similar adhesive ONLY inside the valve cover channel. Press the gasket into the channel and let it set for a few minutes before installing the cover onto the engine. NEVER apply silicone or adhesive to the side of the gasket that touches the cylinder head. By keeping the head-side dry, the valve cover will pop off easily during maintenance without tearing the gasket, often allowing you to reuse the gasket for multiple service intervals if it remains pliable and undamaged.
3. Don''t Over-Torque the Bails or Bolts
When reinstalling your valve covers, remember that cast aluminum does not flex like stock stamped-steel covers. If you are using bolt-on style covers, use a torque wrench to ensure even pressure; over-tightening can actually warp the cover or crush the gasket to the point of failure. If you are using the traditional spring-clip bails, ensure they have proper tension. If the bail feels "soft," it may have lost its temper and won''t provide enough clamping force. A firm, even seal is much more effective at stopping oil leaks than simply cranking down on the fasteners until they can''t turn any further.
