* Compatible with VDO gauges.
* Single pack quantity.
OVERVIEW
When you are pushing boost through a classic air-cooled engine, precision isn''t just a luxuryit''s a survival requirement. The VDO 16-Foot Tubing Kit is the professional choice for enthusiasts and builders who demand absolute accuracy from their mechanical turbo boost gauges. Unlike generic hardware store lines that can soften under engine bay heat or kink during complex routing, this genuine VDO kit is engineered specifically for automotive environments. Its generous 16-foot length is a deliberate design choice, providing more than enough reach to navigate from the intake manifold of a rear-mounted Type 1 or Type 4 engine all the way to a dashboard-mounted gauge in a Volkswagen Beetle, Ghia, or even a long-wheelbase Transporter. This kit ensures that the pressure signal reaching your gauge is instantaneous and true, allowing you to monitor your turbocharger''s performance with total confidence.
Reliability in an air-cooled VW often comes down to the quality of the small components that tie the system together. This tubing kit features high-grade, resilient nylon construction that resists the oil vapors and fuel residues commonly found in high-performance engine compartments. Because the air-cooled engine bay can reach significant temperatures, especially in turbocharged applications, using a dedicated VDO line prevents the catastrophic failure of a melted vacuum line that could lead to inaccurate readings or vacuum leaks. Whether you are finishing a sleeper Cal-Look Beetle or a high-horsepower sand rail, this kit provides the professional-grade connection required to interface with VDO''s legendary mechanical gauges. It''s the "insurance policy" your engine needs to ensure you are never guessing about your manifold pressure when you are wide-open throttle on the strip or the dunes.

PRO TIPS
1. Avoid the "Heat Soak" Trap
When routing your 16-foot VDO line from the engine to the dash, always stay as far away from the exhaust header and heater boxes as possible. In an air-cooled VW, the exhaust is the primary source of radiant heat. Even though this nylon is high-grade, direct contact with a hot exhaust pipe will melt the line instantly. I recommend securing the line along the main wiring loom or inside the center tunnel of the chassis. If you must pass near a heat source, use a small piece of heat-reflective fire sleeve to protect the tubing. This ensures the line doesn''t soften, which could cause it to collapse under vacuum or expand under boost, giving you a "lazy" or inaccurate gauge needle.
2. Master the Compression Fitting
One of the most common mistakes I see in the shop is over-tightening the compression nuts on the back of the gauge or at the manifold source. When installing this kit, make sure the tubing is cut perfectly square with a sharp razor bladedo not use wire cutters as they will pinch the tube flat. Slide your nut and ferrule onto the line, insert the line into the fitting until it bottoms out, and tighten the nut finger-tight. Then, use a wrench to turn it only 1 to 1.5 more turns. You want a seal that is "snug," not "crushed." Over-tightening will deform the nylon tubing, creating a restriction or a stress point that will eventually crack and leak.
3. Use Rubber Grommets for Every Firewall
Never run this nylon tubing through a hole in the sheet metal without a rubber grommet. The vibration of an air-cooled engine is significant, and the sharp edges of the firewall or the front luggage compartment will act like a saw against the nylon line. Over time, the chassis vibration will chafe through the tubing, leading to a boost leak that is incredibly hard to diagnose. Always drill your hole slightly larger than the tubing, insert a high-quality rubber grommet, and then pass the VDO line through. This small extra step prevents "ghost" boost leaks and ensures that your gauge readings stay crisp and responsive for the life of the vehicle.
