OVERVIEW
Precision fuel delivery is the lifeblood of any high-performance air-cooled Volkswagen engine, and the Holley Low Pressure Regulator is the industry standard for maintaining that delicate balance. Many VW enthusiasts make the mistake of running high-output electric fuel pumps without regulation, only to find their Weber IDF, Dellorto DRLA, or EMPI HPMX carburetors flooding over due to excessive pressure. These carburetors are designed to operate optimally between 2.5 and 3.5 PSI; anything higher can easily unseat the needle and seat, leading to erratic idling, poor fuel economy, and the dangerous risk of engine fires. By installing this Holley 12-804 regulator, you gain absolute control over your fuel system, ensuring that your engine receives a steady, pulse-free flow of gasoline regardless of the pump''s maximum output. It is the ultimate insurance policy for your expensive induction system, providing the stability needed for both daily driving and aggressive off-road racing in the harshest environments.
Constructed with a beautiful chrome finish, this regulator doesn''t just perform at the highest levelit also adds a professional, show-quality look to your engine bay. The Holley design features a highly sensitive internal diaphragm that reacts instantly to pressure changes, maintaining your desired setting with surgical precision. Unlike cheap, dial-style "chrome" regulators that are notorious for leaking and inconsistent readings, the Holley 12-804 is a heavy-duty component built to withstand the vibrations and heat soak common in the VW engine compartment. Whether you are building a show-stopping Cal-Look Beetle, a rugged Baja Bug, or a high-revving sand rail, this regulator provides the adjustability you need to fine-tune your air-fuel mixture and unlock the hidden horsepower within your flat-four power plant. It features multiple outlet ports, allowing for easy plumbing of dual-carburetor setups without the need for messy T-fittings or complex fuel blocks.

PRO TIPS
1. Always Use a Dedicated Fuel Pressure Gauge During Setup
You cannot accurately set this regulator by "feel" or by counting turns on the adjustment screw. To ensure your needle and seats stay closed at idle, you must install a high-quality, liquid-filled fuel pressure gauge temporarily or permanently in the fuel line after the regulator. Because the Holley 12-804 has two outlet ports, many builders use one port for the fuel line and the second port to mount a gauge directly to the regulator body. This allows for real-time monitoring of your fuel pressure, ensuring that heat soak or pump fatigue isn''t causing your pressure to creep outside of the 2.5 to 3.5 PSI sweet spot required for performance VW carburetors.
2. Avoid Using Teflon Tape on NPT Fittings
When installing your 3/8-inch NPT to barb fittings into the regulator, never use white Teflon tape. Small fragments of the tape can easily shear off during installation, travel through the fuel line, and lodge themselves in the tiny orifices of your carburetor jets or the regulator''s internal seat. This will cause immediate running issues and potential flooding. Instead, use a fuel-resistant liquid thread sealant or paste. Apply it sparingly to the male threads of the fitting, leaving the first two threads clean to ensure no sealant enters the fuel path. This provides a leak-proof seal without the risk of contaminating your fuel system.
3. Mount the Regulator Away from Direct Engine Heat
While the Holley regulator is incredibly robust, it performs best when kept away from extreme heat sources like exhaust headers or the top of the engine case. Excessive heat can lead to "vapor lock" where the fuel begins to boil inside the lines or the regulator itself. We recommend mounting the regulator on the firewall or the inner fender well of your Volkswagen. Use the included bracket to secure it firmly; a loose regulator can vibrate excessively, leading to frothing in the fuel and inconsistent pressure. Ensure that the fuel lines have enough slack to account for engine movement, especially if you are using stock rubber motor mounts.
