OVERVIEW
When it comes to building a high-performance air-cooled engine, the smallest details often make the biggest difference between a dry garage floor and a chronic oil leak. The JayCee Billet Cam Plug is the definitive solution to one of the most common failure points in the Volkswagen Type 1 engine case. Stock stamped steel cam plugs are notorious for losing their tension over time, especially in high-heat environments or engines with elevated crankcase pressure. This "Dingo Approved" billet masterpiece from JayCee replaces that flimsy factory piece with a precision-machined 6061-T6 aluminum plug that utilizes a high-temperature Viton O-ring to create a positive, leak-proof seal. Whether you are building a daily driver or a high-revving drag racer, this cam plug ensures that your oil stays inside the case where it belongs.
What sets the JayCee Billet Cam Plug apart from cheap imitations is the meticulous attention to engineering detail. Jack Sacchette has designed this plug with the correct machining for proper oil drainage, ensuring that oil does not pool against the seal but instead flows back into the sump as intended. This design prevents hydraulic pressure from pushing against the plug, a common issue in performance builds. The billet construction also offers superior dimensional stability compared to stock steel plugs, which can warp or "pop out" under stress. For the serious VW enthusiast, installing a JayCee cam plug is a standard procedure during any engine rebuild, providing peace of mind and a professional finish to the back of the engine block.

PRO TIPS
Tip 1: Lubrication is Key to a Perfect Seal
Before installing the JayCee Billet Cam Plug, it is vital to lubricate the high-temperature O-ring. Use a small amount of clean engine oil or a dedicated assembly lube. This prevents the O-ring from binding, twisting, or tearing as it enters the engine case bore. A dry installation can result in a "nicked" O-ring, which will lead to a slow seep later on. By ensuring the O-ring slides in smoothly, you guarantee a 360-degree airtight seal that will last for the life of the engine.
Tip 2: Verify Orientation for Proper Drainage
One of the most critical aspects of the JayCee design is the relief machining intended for oil drainage. When you are ready to seat the plug, ensure that the machined drainage channel is positioned toward the bottom of the engine case. This allows oil that reaches the back of the camshaft to easily flow back into the case instead of being trapped against the plug face. Proper orientation ensures that you are taking full advantage of the "Dingo Approved" engineering that prevents pressure-induced leaks.
Tip 3: Best Installed During Case Assembly
While it is possible to install this plug on a fully assembled long block, we highly recommend installing the JayCee Billet Cam Plug during the case-splitting phase of your engine build. By placing the plug into the case half before you mate the two halves together, you can visually verify that the O-ring is seated perfectly within the groove of the case. If you are installing it into a pre-assembled case, use a soft-faced rubber mallet or a plastic driver tool to tap it in evenly, avoiding any metal-on-metal contact that could mar the beautiful billet finish.
