The EMPI 00-3300-0 Economy Exhaust System is designed for Volkswagen Type 1 (Beetle) and Type 2 (Bus) models equipped with 1300cc to 1600cc upright aircooled engines. This system is compatible with late 40hp (1200cc) models and fits engines utilizing standard fresh air heaters. It features adjustable slip joints on the header pipes to ensure a proper fit even on engines with varying widths due to stroker cranks or machined heads.

Pro Tech Tips for Installation

Exhaust Coating Maintenance: The black paint found on these economy systems is a "storage paint" intended to prevent rust during shipping and storage. It will burn off almost immediately once the engine reaches operating temperature. For a more durable finish, we recommend stripping the storage paint and applying a high-quality, high-temperature header paint before installation.

Sealing Slip Joints: Because this system uses adjustable slip joints for a universal fit, there is a potential for minor exhaust leaks at the connection points. To ensure a perfect seal, apply a small amount of high-temperature exhaust assembly paste or RTV silicone specifically rated for headers to the male end of the joint before sliding the pipes together.

Initial Heat Cycle Check: After the first 20 to 50 miles of driving, allow the engine to cool completely and re-torque all exhaust nuts and clamps. The thermal expansion and contraction of a new system can cause hardware to seat differently, and a quick re-tightening will prevent annoying exhaust leaks or lost hardware down the road.
