OVERVIEW
When you are pushing your off-road machine to the absolute limit across harsh desert terrain or through technical woodland trails, the stock Volkswagen spindle is often the first point of failure. These Latest Rage Combo Spindles are engineered specifically to eliminate that weakness, providing a massive upgrade in strength and durability for your front suspension. Manufactured from high-grade chromoly and beefed up in all the critical stress areas, these spindles are designed to withstand the violent impacts and constant vibration inherent in high-performance off-roading. By utilizing a "Combo" design, these spindles bridge the gap between traditional King Pin strength and modern performance requirements, ensuring that your steering geometry remains true even when the going gets rough. Whether you are building a dedicated sand rail, a rugged Baja Bug, or a custom woods buggy, these spindles offer the peace of mind that comes from knowing your front end is built to handle the abuse.
Beyond sheer brute strength, these spindles are optimized for precision steering through the use of heim joint connections. Unlike standard tie rod ends that can bind or fail under extreme articulation, the 5/8-inch heim joint holes on these spindles allow for a much wider range of motion and a significantly stronger steering linkage. This setup is the gold standard for long-travel suspension systems where steering accuracy is paramount. Furthermore, these spindles feature the popular ball joint bolt pattern for caliper brackets, making it incredibly easy to adapt high-performance disc brake systems to your rig. Sold as a complete pair for both the left and right sides, these spindles represent a critical investment in the safety and performance of your air-cooled VW project, ensuring that you spend more time on the trail and less time in the pits performing emergency repairs on bent or snapped components.

PRO TIPS
1. Optimize Your Steering Geometry
When installing these spindles with heim joints, it is absolutely critical to check for "bump steer" throughout the entire range of your suspension travel. Because heim joints allow for more articulation than stock tie rods, you have the opportunity to fine-tune your steering. Use high-quality spacers or "misalignment washers" on your 5/8-inch bolts to ensure the tie rod remains as level as possible with the lower control arm at ride height. If the angles are significantly different, your vehicle will dart left or right when hitting bumps, which can be dangerous at high speeds. Always use Grade 8 or higher hardware to secure your heim joints to these spindles, as the steering system is no place to save a few pennies on bolts.
2. Brake System Compatibility and Clearance
Since these spindles utilize the ball joint bolt pattern for caliper brackets, you have a wide variety of disc brake options available. However, because "Combo" spindles often have a thicker snout and different offset than stock spindles, you must verify that your brake rotor and caliper clear the spindle body and your wheels. It is a common mistake to assume any ball joint brake kit will bolt up without adjustment. Do a dry fit-up before you paint or powder coat these spindles. Check for interference between the caliper body and the spindle arm at full lock. If you are running 15-inch wheels with a deep backspread, you may need to use a specific offset wheel to prevent the rim from contacting the heim joint or the spindle itself.
3. Maintenance for Harsh Environments
Off-road racing and trail riding expose your spindles to sand, silt, and moisture, which can be incredibly abrasive. Since these spindles are made of chromoly, they must be painted or powder-coated to prevent surface rust; however, you should never coat the actual spindle snout where the bearings sit. Keep the snout surfaces lightly greased and always use high-quality wheel bearings packed with high-temp racing grease. Additionally, because heim joints are "open" bearings, they should be cleaned and lubricated with a dry-film lubricant after every outing. If you notice any "play" or clicking in the steering, inspect the 5/8-inch mounting holes for ovaling and replace the heim joints immediately. Keeping these components clean will ensure that your steering remains crisp and your spindles last for years of abuse.
