Tip 1: Utilize the Rope-In Technique. For a successful installation, first seat the rubber seal onto the glass. Insert a thin, strong nylon cord or weed-eater line into the body-side groove of the seal, overlapping the ends at the bottom center. While an assistant applies firm pressure from the outside, slowly pull the cord from the inside of the vehicle to pull the rubber lip over the metal body flange.

Tip 2: Use Proper Lubrication. To prevent the rubber from binding or tearing during installation, lubricate the seal and the body flange. Avoid petroleum-based products as they can damage the rubber compound over time. Instead, use a mixture of dish soap and water or a dedicated silicone-based glass installation lubricant to allow the seal to slide into place effortlessly.

Tip 3: Inspect and Prep the Body Flange. Before installing the new rubber, thoroughly clean the metal window flange of the car. Remove all remnants of old sealant, dirt, or adhesive. If you discover any surface rust on the flange, treat it with a rust inhibitor and touch-up paint. A clean, smooth surface ensures a watertight seal and prevents future corrosion from developing under the new rubber.
