PRO TIPS

1. Always Use Braided Stainless Lines

Since this is a mechanical gauge, pressurized oil is actually traveling into the back of the instrument. Never use the cheap plastic tubing kits often found in generic auto parts stores. In an air-cooled VW, especially one used off-road, the heat and vibration will eventually cause plastic lines to brittle and crack, spraying hot oil inside your cabin. We strictly recommend using a #4 braided stainless steel line kit. 2. Proper Line Bleeding for Accuracy

To get the most responsive needle movement, you should attempt to minimize the amount of air trapped in the line between the engine and the gauge. When installing, leave the fitting at the back of the gauge slightly loose. Have an assistant briefly crank the engine (with the ignition disabled) until oil reaches the fitting, then tighten it down. This ensures the Bourdon tube is reacting directly to oil pressure rather than compressing a large pocket of air, which can lead to "bouncy" or sluggish needle readings.

3. Mounting for High-Vibration Environments
