Avoid Over-Tightening: When securing your air cleaner to the carburetor, do not over-torque the mounting nuts. Snug the hardware down evenly to ensure uniform pressure across the gasket surface.

Clean the Mating Surfaces: Before installation, ensure that both the top of the carburetor and the bottom of the air filter base are completely free of old gasket material, oil, and grime. Use a mild solvent and a lint-free rag to prep the surfaces; a clean mating surface is the best way to prevent vacuum leaks and ensure the gasket seats properly.

Check for Base Flatness: If you have experienced persistent air leaks in the past, place your air cleaner base on a flat piece of glass to check for warpage. If the base is "rocking" or shows visible gaps against the glass, you may need to gently tap it flat with a rubber mallet before installing the new EMPI gasket to ensure a 100% airtight seal.
