OVERVIEW
When you are behind the wheel of a classic air-cooled Volkswagen, the connection between your right foot and the engine should be crisp, responsive, and reliable. Over decades of use, the original accelerator pedal bracket on the floor pan often falls victim to the "big three" of VW interior issues: moisture-driven rust, metal fatigue, and ovaled-out hinge pin holes. A worn bracket leads to a sloppy, side-to-side pedal movement that makes smooth acceleration difficult and can even cause the throttle linkage to bind or disconnect at the most inconvenient times. This replacement accelerator pedal bracket is engineered to restore that factory-fresh throttle response, ensuring your Beetle or Karmann Ghia feels as tight and controlled as the day it left the assembly line in Wolfsburg.
Fabricated from heavy-duty stamped steel, this bracket is designed specifically for the 1958 through 1966 floor pan configuration. Unlike cheap, thin-gauge alternatives, this component provides the structural rigidity necessary to withstand the constant pressure of spirited driving. Because this is a weld-on component, it allows for a permanent, high-strength repair that integrates seamlessly into your chassis restoration. Whether you are replacing a rusted section of an original floor pan or finishing off a brand-new pan half, this bracket is the essential link for your throttle assembly. Don''t settle for a "good enough" pedal feel when a professional-grade restoration part is available to ensure your VW stays safe and enjoyable on the open road.
FITMENT
This accelerator pedal bracket is designed for the following air-cooled Volkswagen models with the early-style floor pan hinge configuration:
- Volkswagen Type 1 Beetle (Sedan & Convertible): 1958, 1959, 1960, 1961, 1962, 1963, 1964, 1965, 1966
- Volkswagen Karmann Ghia (Coupe & Convertible): 1958, 1959, 1960, 1961, 1962, 1963, 1964, 1965, 1966
- Custom Applications: Often used on custom dune buggies or sand rails utilizing a 1958-1966 style VW floor pan or pedal cluster setup.
SPECS
Engineered to meet or exceed original equipment standards, this bracket features the following technical specifications:

- Precision Stamping: Ensures proper alignment of the hinge pin for smooth, bind-free pedal travel.
PRO TIPS
1. Clean Metal is Mandatory for a Strong Weld
Since this bracket must be welded directly to the floor pan, the most critical step is surface preparation. Use a wire wheel or a flap disc to grind the installation area on the floor pan down to shiny, bare metal. Also, ensure you scuff the underside of the new bracket where it will meet the pan. Any leftover rust, undercoating, or old carpet glue will contaminate the weld, leading to a weak bond that could fail under the pressure of your foot. Once welded, be sure to prime and paint the area immediately to prevent flash rust from forming on the fresh metal.
2. Dry-Fit and Align Before Final Welding
Before you lay down your final beads or plug welds, place your accelerator pedal onto the bracket with the hinge pin inserted. Sit in the driver''s seat and check the alignment to ensure the pedal is perfectly vertical and lines up correctly with the throttle cable S-link. If the bracket is welded even slightly crooked, it will cause the pedal to sweep at an angle, which puts unnecessary stress on the throttle cable and can lead to premature cable snapping. A quick "mock-up" with the pedal in place will save you the headache of having to grind off a poorly positioned bracket later.
3. Don''t Forget the Hinge Pin Lubrication
Many VW owners install a new bracket and pedal but forget to lubricate the hinge pin. During the assembly process, apply a small amount of high-quality lithium grease or anti-seize to the hinge pin before sliding it through the bracket and pedal. This prevents metal-on-metal friction that eventually "ovals" the holes in the bracket. A lubricated hinge ensures a silky-smooth pedal feel and significantly extends the life of your new hardware. Also, make sure your return spring is in good condition; a weak spring combined with a new, tight bracket can sometimes cause the throttle to return slowly.
