OVERVIEW
When you are pushing your air-cooled Volkswagen beyond the limits of a stock 1600cc engine, a standard organic clutch disc simply will not cut it. The Latest Rage 200mm 4-Puck Sprung Clutch Disc is engineered specifically for high-performance street machines, weekend drag racers, and aggressive off-road builds that demand immediate engagement and superior heat dissipation. Featuring high-friction feramic pads, this disc provides a significantly more aggressive "bite" than traditional materials, ensuring that your horsepower reaches the ground instead of disappearing into a cloud of clutch smoke. The 4-puck design reduces the surface area compared to a full-face disc, which increases the pressure per square inch on the friction surface, allowing it to hold firm under high-torque loads that would cause other discs to slip and glaze.
While many high-performance puck-style clutches are rigid, which can be incredibly harsh on your transaxle and crankshaft, this Latest Rage unit features a heavy-duty sprung hub. This center spring configuration is a game-changer for vehicles that see street time or technical off-road trails, as it helps dampen the initial shock of engagement. By absorbing the "hit" when you release the pedal, the sprung hub protects your drivetrain componentslike your axles, spider gears, and flywheel glandsfrom premature failure while still providing the lightning-fast lockup you need for spirited driving. Whether you are launching off the line at the strip or powering through a sand wash in a heavy rail, this disc delivers the perfect balance of brutal holding power and mechanical sympathy.

PRO TIPS
Proper Break-In is Essential: Because feramic materials are much harder than standard organic linings, they require a specific break-in period to "mate" with the flywheel and pressure plate surfaces. I strongly recommend avoiding high-RPM launches or excessive slipping for the first 200 to 300 miles of street driving. If you are installing this in a dedicated race car, perform several moderate-load heat cycles to ensure the pucks seat correctly. Skipping this step can lead to "chatter" or uneven wear that shortens the lifespan of your drivetrain components.
Match Your Pressure Plate Wisely: This 4-puck disc is a powerhouse, but it performs best when paired with the right pressure plate. For a high-performance street Beetle or a lightweight buggy, a Kennedy Stage 1 pressure plate provides excellent clamping force without making the clutch pedal too stiff for daily use. If you are running a high-displacement stroker engine or a turbo setup, moving up to a Kennedy Stage 2 will ensure the disc never slips, but keep in mind that the combination of a puck-style disc and a heavy plate will result in a very "on/off" feel at the pedal.
Check Your Flywheel Surface: Never install a feramic puck disc on a used, glazed, or heat-spotted flywheel. The aggressive nature of the feramic material requires a fresh, flat friction surface to work correctly. I always advise my customers to have their flywheel professionally surfaced or replaced with a new chromoly unit when upgrading to a 4-puck disc. Additionally, ensure your input shaft splines are clean and lightly lubricated with a high-temp anti-seize; a sticking disc on the splines can cause shifting issues and prevent the sprung hub from doing its job effectively.
