The EMPI Tuck-Away Dual Exhaust system is engineered for Volkswagen enthusiasts who want maximum performance without compromising the classic silhouette of their Beetle. This system is designed to sit discreetly behind the rear apron, featuring dual glass pack mufflers and polished chrome tips. Built with 1 1/2-inch tubing, it is the least restrictive dual muffler system available that still provides an effective exhaust note muffle. It produces a deep, throaty sound that is more aggressive than a standard quiet-pack while remaining suitable for daily street use.

Fitment and Engine Compatibility

This exhaust is specifically designed for Type 1 Beetle engines (1300cc to 1600cc). It is compatible with both factory heat exchangers and aftermarket J-tubes. Please note that due to the compact "tucked" positioning of the mufflers, this system will not fit engines equipped with a high-capacity oil filter pump. The kit includes the complete exhaust system and necessary hardware for installation.

Verify Apron Clearance: Since this system is designed to hide behind the rear apron, it is vital to check the clearance between the exhaust tips and the bodywork. During the mock-up phase, ensure there is adequate space to prevent heat transfer from damaging your paint or causing vibrations against the apron.

Install New Gaskets: To prevent exhaust leaks and ensuring optimal backpressure, never reuse old gaskets. Always use a fresh set of high-quality exhaust gaskets at the heater box or J-tube junctions to ensure a perfect, airtight seal during the initial bolt-on process.

Initial Heat Cycle Check: After the first 50 miles of driving, re-torque the mounting hardware. The heating and cooling cycles of a new exhaust can cause hardware to settle, and a quick tightening session will prevent leaks or rattles from developing over time.
