OVERVIEW
Transform your off-road machine into a high-performance dirt-shredding beast with the Appletree Automotive 3X3 Trailing Arm Kit. Specifically engineered for enthusiasts running the legendary 091 Bus 6-rib transmission, this kit provides the ultimate suspension geometry for serious sand rails, woods buggies, and Baja Bugs. The 3x3 configuration pushes your rear wheels out three inches and back three inches, significantly increasing your wheelbase for superior high-speed stability while offering a massive increase in wheel travel. Whether you are navigating deep whoops in the dunes or technical rock sections in the forest, these arms provide the clearance and articulation necessary to keep your tires planted and your momentum moving forward. By utilizing heavy-duty D.O.M. steel tubing, we ensure that these arms can handle the brutal lateral loads and vertical impacts that would fold a stock IRS arm like a pretzel.
This isn''t just a set of arms; it is a comprehensive, pro-grade drivetrain solution that bridges the gap between your 091 transaxle and the dirt. We have curated this kit to include the massive 930-style CV joints, which are the industry standard for high-angle, high-horsepower off-road applications. These joints allow for much greater operating angles than standard Type 1 or Type 2 joints, which is critical when you are utilizing the increased travel provided by the 3x3 geometry. The kit comes complete with 28-spline axles, specialized 091-to-930 drive flanges, and all the necessary bearings and seals to refresh your rear end entirely. When you install this Appletree kit, you are eliminating the guesswork of piecing together a drivetrain, ensuring that every component from the stub axles to the axle housing end caps is perfectly matched for fitment and durability. Don''t let a snapped axle or a bound-up CV joint cut your weekend shortupgrade to the strength and reliability of 930 components today.
FITMENT
This kit is designed for custom off-road vehicles utilizing an Independent Rear Suspension (IRS) pivot point and a Type 2 091 (6-Rib) Bus Transmission. Common applications include:

- Meyers Manx & Fiberglass Buggies: Short-wheelbase buggies looking for increased stability.
- Off-Road Race Cars: Entry-level and sportsman class vehicles requiring 930-strength components.
- Custom VW Transporters: Highly modified Type 2 builds utilizing 091 transaxles and custom suspension.

PRO TIPS
1. Master the CV Greasing Process
Proper lubrication is the lifeblood of 930 CV joints. When assembling your kit, do not just "smear" grease on the outside of the cage. You must pack the grease into the center of the joint and work it through the ball bearings until it oozes out the other side. Use a high-quality Moly-Disulfide grease specifically rated for high-temperature, high-pressure CV applications. Also, remember to put a small amount of grease inside the boot itself to keep the rubber supple and provide a reserve, but do not overfill the boot to the point where it "balloons" at high RPM, as this can lead to premature boot failure or grease leakage.
2. Set Your Limit Straps Correctly
While 930 CV joints offer impressive operating angles, they are not indestructible. It is absolutely vital to install limit straps to prevent the suspension from "hanging" on the CV joints at full droop. To set these correctly, support your vehicle on jack stands, remove the springs/torsion tension, and lower the arm until the CV joint begins to bind. Raise the arm back up about 1/2 inch to 1 inch from that bind point and weld your limit strap tabs there. This small amount of "safety margin" accounts for the stretch that occurs in the nylon limit straps under the weight of the heavy tires and trailing arms during a jump.
3. Re-Torque After the First Ride
The 12-point bolts used in 930 CV kits are notorious for "settling" after the first heat cycle and vibration of a real off-road run. After your initial installation, torque the CV bolts to the manufacturer''s specification (typically 35-45 ft-lbs depending on the specific hardware grade). After your first day out in the dirt, get back under the car and re-check every single one of those 24 bolts. Many professional racers use a small dab of blue thread-locking compound and "mark" the bolt heads with a paint pen so they can visually inspect for any rotation during a quick pit stop. Keeping these tight prevents the bolt holes from elongating and saves your expensive drive flanges from being ruined.
