Vehicle Fitment and Compatibility

This high-performance IAP Sideflow Exhaust system is engineered specifically for VW Type-1 Beetle bodies. Due to the specific routing and collector design, this system will not fit VW Bus or Karmann Ghia models. Please note that this is a competition-style merged header system with 1-5/8 inch tubing; it is designed for maximum flow and cannot be used with stock heater boxes. You must use J-tubes for installation.

Pro Tech Tips for Installation

Tip 1: Ensure Leak-Free Flange Sealing. Because this system features a true 4-into-1 merged collector and thick mounting flanges, alignment is critical. Before final tightening, hand-start all nuts on the exhaust studs. We recommend using a high-temperature copper gasket spray or a small bead of high-temp RTV on the gaskets to ensure a perfect seal against the cylinder heads, especially on high-vibration aircooled engines.

Tip 2: Stainless Steel Heat Management. While the TIG-welded stainless steel construction offers superior corrosion resistance, it will naturally "blue" or change color after several heat cycles. To maintain the high-luster finish as long as possible, thoroughly clean the entire exhaust with denatured alcohol or a grease remover before the first start-up. Any fingerprints or oil left on the stainless steel will be permanently "baked" into the finish once the metal reaches operating temperature.

Tip 3: Clearance and Component Check. Since this system utilizes 1-5/8" large-diameter tubing, check for clearance around your rear apron and valve covers. Additionally, ensure your engine is equipped with the correct J-tubes to match the 1-5/8" diameter of the header. Using smaller diameter J-tubes will create a flow restriction and negate the performance benefits of the merged collector design.
