Pro Tech Tips for Ignition Maintenance

Tip 1: Verify Your Distributor Number. Before purchasing, always check the stamped part number on the side of your distributor body. This rotor is specifically designed for the Bosch 010 and 019 series distributors. If your vehicle has been upgraded to a more common 009 or 034 vacuum advance distributor, this rotor will not fit.

Tip 2: Check for Carbon Tracking. While you have the distributor open, inspect the inside of the distributor cap for thin black lines known as carbon tracking. These lines indicate that electricity is jumping to the ground rather than the spark plug wires. If you see these marks, replace the cap along with your new rotor to prevent engine misfires.

Tip 3: Clean the Shaft Contact. Ensure the distributor shaft is clean and free of debris before sliding the new rotor into place. A small amount of corrosion on the shaft can prevent the rotor from seating fully, which may lead to the rotor hitting the distributor cap terminals and causing mechanical damage during startup.
