PRO TIPS

1. Protect Your Paint During Installation

Before you even think about snapping these moldings onto your Beetle, we highly recommend using low-tack painter''s tape along the mounting holes. Stainless steel is much harder than aluminum, and if you slip during the installation, the edge of the molding can easily gouge your fresh paint. By taping off the area around the clips, you provide a safety barrier. Once the molding is securely snapped into place, you can simply peel the tape away for a perfect, scratch-free finish. Also, ensure your clip seals or rubber bungs are in good condition to prevent metal-to-metal contact between the clip and the body.

2. Choosing the Right Clips

Since this kit does not include clips, you have a choice to make based on your restoration goals. For a factory-correct feel, many builders prefer the metal T-bolt style clips for the hood and the wire-spring clips for the body. However, if you are concerned about future rust or paint chips, modern plastic molding clips are a fantastic alternative. They provide a snug fit, won''t corrode, and are much more forgiving on the paint inside the mounting holes. Regardless of which style you choose, ensure you have a full set of 1967-specific narrow trim clips, as the wider clips from earlier years will not fit inside these stainless channels.

3. Maintaining the Stainless Luster

One of the biggest advantages of stainless steel over original aluminum is that it doesn''t require a clear coat to stay shiny. To keep these moldings looking like chrome, avoid using abrasive cleaners or steel wool, which can create micro-scratches that dull the finish over time. Instead, use a high-quality stainless steel polish and a microfiber cloth once every few months. If you ever happen to get a small ding or a scratch from road debris, the beauty of stainless is that it can be sanded with ultra-fine wet sandpaper and buffed back to a mirror finishsomething that is nearly impossible to do with anodized aluminum trim.
