OVERVIEW
When it is time to restore the stopping power of your classic Type 2, the front brake hoses are often the most overlooked yet critical components in your entire hydraulic system. Over decades of service, original rubber lines undergo immense thermal stress and environmental degradation, leading to internal swelling or external "dry rot" cracking that can compromise your safety. This premium IAP Front Brake Hose is engineered specifically for the 1970 through 1979 VW Bus, providing a factory-spec replacement that restores the firm, responsive pedal feel you need when piloting a heavy Transporter. Don''t risk your investment or your passengers by running aged, brittle lines; these high-quality rubber hoses are designed to withstand the high pressures of modern driving while maintaining the flexibility required for the front suspension''s range of motion.
Constructed with multi-layer reinforced synthetic rubber, these hoses are built to resist the corrosive nature of brake fluid while preventing "ballooning" under heavy braking loads. For owners of late-model Bay Window Buses, especially those converted to disc brakes or maintaining the heavy-duty drum setups of the early 70s, maintaining the integrity of the front lines is paramount. Each hose features precision-machined fittings to ensure a leak-free seal with your existing hard lines and wheel cylinders or calipers. Whether you are performing a full frame-off restoration on a Westfalia or simply keeping your daily driver Kombi in peak mechanical condition, these hoses offer the reliability and durability that air-cooled enthusiasts have come to expect from Appletree Automotive.

PRO TIPS
1. Avoid the "Invisible" Danger of Internal Swelling
While many enthusiasts look for external cracks as a sign of failure, brake hoses often fail from the inside out. Over time, the inner lining of the hose can collapse or swell shut, acting like a one-way check valve. This prevents brake fluid from returning to the master cylinder, causing your front brakes to drag, overheat, and prematurely wear out your pads or shoes. If your Bus feels like it is pulling to one side or the wheels are running hot after a short drive, it is a definitive sign that these hoses need immediate replacement, even if they look "fine" from the outside.
2. Prevent Hose Twisting During Installation
One of the most common mistakes during installation is allowing the hose to twist while tightening the fittings. A twisted hose creates internal stress and can cause the line to rub against the tire or suspension components during sharp turns. Always thread the hose into the hard line or caliper by hand first. Before final tightening, ensure there is a natural, relaxed curve in the hose through the full range of steering (lock to lock). Use a backup wrench on the hose hex nut to ensure only the flare nut on the hard line is turning, keeping the rubber hose stationary and stress-free.
3. Use High-Quality Brake Fluid and Proper Bleeding Sequence
Whenever you open the hydraulic system to replace a hose, you must perform a full system bleed. We highly recommend using a fresh container of high-quality DOT 3 or DOT 4 brake fluid. Because the Bus has a long wheelbase, start your bleeding process at the wheel furthest from the master cylinder (typically the Passenger Rear), then the Driver Rear, followed by the Passenger Front, and finally the Driver Front. This ensures all air pockets are purged from the long runs of hard line, giving you the firmest pedal possible for your 1970-1979 Transporter.
