        PRO TIPS

        1. Proper Break-In is Non-Negotiable

        The life of your Engle FK-48 is determined in the first 20 minutes of operation. You must use a high-quality assembly lube on the lobes and pair this cam with brand new liftersnever use old lifters on a new cam. Upon initial startup, immediately bring the engine to 2,0002,500 RPM and maintain that speed for at least 20 minutes. This ensures the lifters and cam lobes "mate" properly and creates the necessary centrifugal oil spray to lubricate the high-friction surfaces. Always use a high-zinc (ZDDP) break-in oil to prevent premature lobe wiping during this critical phase.

        2. Verify Valve-to-Piston and Valve-to-Valve Clearance

        With a .587 lift, the FK-48 pushes the boundaries of physical space inside your cylinder head and combustion chamber. It is mandatory to perform a "dry build" and check your valve-to-piston clearance, as well as valve-to-valve clearance if you are running oversized valves. You should maintain a minimum of .060" to .080" clearance. Additionally, ensure your valve springs are not reaching "coil bind" at full lift. This cam requires high-quality dual or triple valve springs and chromoly pushrods to handle the aggressive ramp rates and high lift without deflection or failure.

        3. Optimize Your Rocker Geometry

        To truly unlock the power of the FK-48, your rocker arm geometry must be perfect. Since this cam is designed specifically for 1.4:1 or 1.5:1 rockers, the angle of the pushrod and the rocker arm''s contact point on the valve stem are critical. Use an adjustable mock-up pushrod to determine the correct length needed to achieve a centered sweep across the valve stem tip. Incorrect geometry will not only rob you of horsepower but will also lead to rapid guide wear and potential rocker shaft failure. Don''t cut cornerstake the time to shim your rocker stands for a perfect setup.
