OVERVIEW
Restore the quiet, weather-tight integrity of your classic Bug with this premium Right Side Door Seal, specifically engineered for the 1967 through 1977 Volkswagen Beetle. As any seasoned air-cooled enthusiast knows, the door seal is the primary line of defense against the elements, wind noise, and the dreaded floor pan rust caused by water intrusion. Over decades, original rubber becomes brittle, cracks, and loses its bulbous shape, leading to a cabin that feels drafty and loud. This Brazilian-manufactured seal provides a high-quality, cost-effective solution that mirrors the original factory profile, ensuring a snug fit against the door frame. Whether you are finishing a ground-up restoration or simply trying to make your daily driver more comfortable, replacing a collapsed seal is one of the most impactful maintenance tasks you can perform to preserve your interior and improve your driving experience.
The 1967 model year was a pivotal transition period for the Volkswagen Beetle, and having the correct seal is vital for a proper "thud" when the door closes. This specific seal is crafted from a durable, UV-resistant rubber compound designed to withstand the rigors of extreme temperature fluctuations without shrinking or tearing. Unlike generic, universal seals that require messy trimming and rarely seat correctly in the channel, this unit is molded to the specific contours of the Type 1 door frame. By installing this right-hand (passenger side) seal, you effectively eliminate the annoying whistling sounds at highway speeds and ensure that rainwater stays on the outside where it belongs. At Appletree Automotive, we understand that the details matter, and this Brazilian seal offers the perfect balance of flexibility for easy installation and firmness for a long-lasting, airtight seal.

PRO TIPS
1. Clean the Channels Thoroughly Before Installation
The secret to a professional installation is in the preparation of the door channel. Before you attempt to fit the new seal, use a plastic scraper and a mild adhesive remover to get rid of every trace of old rubber and crusty weatherstrip adhesive. If you find surface rust inside the channel, treat it with a rust inhibitor and a touch-up pen. If the channel is filled with debris, the new seal won''t sit deep enough, which can cause the door to stick out or be difficult to latch. A clean, smooth channel ensures the rubber lip grabs the metal evenly all the way around the door frame.
2. Use a Dry Lubricant or Soapy Water
Rubber can be stubborn when you''re trying to seat it into a tight metal channel. We recommend using a small amount of dish soap mixed with water or a dedicated rubber lubricant to help the seal slide into place. Avoid using petroleum-based greases or oils, as these can degrade the rubber over time and cause it to swell or lose its shape. Start at the top corners and work your way down, ensuring the seal is not being stretched as you go; stretching the rubber will eventually lead to it pulling away from the corners as it tries to return to its original length.
3. Allow Time for the Rubber to Set
Don''t be alarmed if your door is difficult to close immediately after installation. New Brazilian seals are often thicker and firmer than the old, compressed ones you removed. After installation, you may need to firmly slam the door to get it to latch. Leave the door closed for 48 to 72 hours to allow the rubber to "take a set" and conform to the shape of your specific door and body. In some cases, you might need to slightly adjust your door striker plate outward temporarily and then move it back inward once the seal has compressed naturally over a few weeks of use.
