        OVERVIEW

In the world of high-performance off-road racing and extreme sand rail builds, the old adage remains true: you can''t win if you don''t finish. The CV joint is the critical link between your transaxle and your wheels, enduring massive amounts of torque and extreme angles during suspension travel. This EMPI 934 CV Joint Race is engineered specifically to meet the demands of rugged terrain and professional racing applications. While standard components might fail under the stress of high-horsepower engines and oversized tires, this race-hardened inner component is designed to withstand the brutal punishment of desert racing and rock crawling. By utilizing advanced metallurgy and precision machining, EMPI ensures that this race provides a smooth, reliable surface for the ball bearings to track, reducing friction and heat buildup that leads to catastrophic failure on the trail.

The 934 series CV joint is the industry standard for long-travel suspension systems, and the inner race is the heart of that assembly. This individual replacement race is perfect for builders who are refreshing their drivetrain or for those who demand a spare in their chase truck tool kit. It is designed for seamless compatibility with original Lobro and EMPI 934 CV housings and cages. When you are pushing your air-cooled beast through deep whoops or climbing steep dunes, the integrity of your drivetrain depends on the quality of your internal CV components. Don''t settle for inferior cast parts when you can install a race-hardened component that is built to handle the rigorous duty cycles of competitive off-road use. This is a must-have for any serious VW enthusiast looking to bulletproof their rear end for maximum reliability.

        FITMENT

This CV Joint Race is designed for heavy-duty 934 (128mm) CV joints and is commonly used in the following applications:

        • Custom Sand Rails and Dune Buggies: Ideal for high-travel rear suspension setups utilizing 934 CV joints.
        • VW Baja Beetles: Used in specialized off-road conversions requiring upgraded 33-spline axles.
        • Class 1 and Class 10 Off-Road Race Cars: A standard replacement part for professional-grade racing drivetrains.
        • Custom VW Transporters: Fits high-performance Type 2 Bus or Vanagon builds modified for 934 CV hardware.
        • Compatibility: Designed to fit standard 33-spline off-road axles and works with both EMPI and Lobro brand 934 CV cages and housings.

        PRO TIPS

        1. Proper Orientation is Paramount

When installing the inner race into the cage, it is vital to pay close attention to the orientation of the "star" and the cage windows. The 934 CV joint is a precision-engineered piece of machinery; if the race is installed backward or "out of phase" with the cage, the joint will bind almost immediately upon articulation. Before you apply grease, dry-fit the race into the cage and ensure that the wide lands of the race align with the narrow windows of the cage. This ensures the ball bearings have the necessary room to move through the full range of travel without hitting a mechanical limit that could shatter the cage or the race itself.

        2. Use High-Quality Moly Grease

A race-hardened component like this 934 inner race requires superior lubrication to survive the high-RPM and high-heat environment of an off-road CV joint. Never use standard chassis grease. Instead, use a high-performance CV-specific grease with a high molybdenum disulfide (Moly) content, such as Red Line or Swepco. When assembling, ensure the grease is packed deep into the splines and the ball tracks. Proper lubrication not only reduces wear on the race but also acts as a thermal barrier, preventing the metal from reaching temperatures that could draw out the heat-treatment and soften the steel.

        3. Inspect Splines and Check for Burrs

Before pressing this new race onto your 33-spline axle, take the time to inspect your axle splines for any "mushrooming" or burrs caused by previous failures. Using a fine-tooth file to lightly clean up the axle splines will ensure that the race slides on with the appropriate amount of resistance. If you have to force the race on with excessive pressure, you risk creating a stress riser that could lead to a snapped axle or a cracked race. Always ensure the snap ring is fully seated in its groove after the race is installed to prevent the assembly from shifting under heavy lateral loads during cornering.
