OVERVIEW
If you have been running a set of dual Kadrons on your air-cooled engine, you know they are the ultimate "bang-for-your-buck" performance upgrade for everything from a mild 1600cc daily driver to a spirited 1914cc weekend warrior. However, the passage of time and the harsh reality of modern ethanol-blended fuels eventually take their toll on the internal soft parts of these iconic Brazilian-made Brosol carburetors. This EMPI Carburetor Rebuild Kit for Brosol and Kadron 40 and 44 EIS is the professional technician''s solution to restoring the crisp throttle response and steady idle your Volkswagen deserves. Whether you are dealing with a frustrating "bog" upon acceleration caused by a perished accelerator pump diaphragm or a dangerous flooding issue due to a worn needle and seat, this comprehensive kit provides the high-quality components required to seal your fuel system and ensure your engine is getting the precise mixture it needs to perform at its peak.
Precision is paramount when it comes to carburetor maintenance, and this EMPI kit is engineered to meet or exceed the original equipment specifications for the Brosol 40/44 EIS series. Unlike generic "one size fits none" kits, these gaskets are stamped from high-density materials designed to resist fuel soaking and flange seepage, while the included O-rings and seals are formulated to withstand the chemical degradation common in today''s pump gas. By performing a complete teardown and refresh using these components, you aren''t just fixing a leak; you are recalibrating the heart of your induction system. This kit covers one carburetor, so if you are running the traditional dual-carb Kadron setup, you will want to grab two of these to ensure your left and right banks are perfectly synchronized and sealed for the long haul. Don''t let a dry-rotted seal or a sticky needle valve keep your VW in the garage when a professional-grade rebuild is this accessible.

PRO TIPS
1. Fuel Pressure is Critical
One of the most common mistakes VW owners make with Kadron and Brosol carburetors is running too much fuel pressure. These carburetors are designed to operate optimally between 1.5 and 2.0 PSI. Most stock mechanical fuel pumps, and certainly most aftermarket electric pumps, put out 3.5 to 6 PSI. If you don''t use a quality fuel pressure regulator with this rebuild kit, the excess pressure will eventually overcome the new needle and seat, leading to flooding, poor fuel economy, and potential engine damage. Always gauge your pressure after a rebuild to ensure your new components can do their job correctly.
2. Check for Flange Distortion
Before you install the new base gaskets included in this kit, take a moment to check the carburetor base and the intake manifold flange for flatness. Over decades of heat cycles and over-tightening, these cast aluminum parts can "potato chip" or warp. Use a known flat surface or a straight edge to inspect them. If they are warped, the new gaskets may not be able to seal the vacuum leak. You can often "deck" the carburetor base by using 400-grit sandpaper on a piece of plate glass, moving the carburetor in a figure-eight motion until the mounting surface is perfectly flat again.
3. Clean Every Internal Passage
A rebuild kit is only as good as the cleaning process that precedes it. Simply replacing gaskets isn''t enough. When the carburetor is disassembled, use a dedicated carburetor cleaning solvent and high-pressure compressed air to blow out every single gallery, especially the idle circuit and the accelerator pump discharge nozzles. It only takes a tiny speck of debris to clog a jet or a transition port, which will make the engine stumble regardless of how "new" the gaskets are. Pay special attention to the small brass "owl eye" tubes and ensure they are clear of any varnish or corrosion before reassembling with your new EMPI seals.
