The EMPI 00-3837-0 hardware kit is designed specifically for 1-1/2 inch diameter tube bumpers that utilize a firewall-mounted configuration. This 4-piece set is a direct replacement for hardware found on VW Baja Bugs, Dune Buggies, and custom sand rails. It is engineered to provide a secure mounting point where the bumper meets the vehicle body or chassis cage structure.

Pro Tech Tips for Installation

Verify Tube Diameter: Before beginning your installation, double-check that your bumper is constructed from 1.5-inch tubing. While this is the standard for most off-road Volkswagen tube bumpers, some heavy-duty or custom-fabricated bumpers may use 1.75-inch or 2-inch tubing, which would require different mounting hardware.

Reinforce the Mounting Surface: When mounting directly to a VW firewall, the sheet metal can be a weak point under high vibration. For the most secure fit, use a large fender washer or a custom backing plate on the inside of the firewall. This distributes the load across a larger surface area, preventing the hardware from "pulling through" or cracking the sheet metal during off-road use.

Use Thread Locker: Off-road vehicles are subject to constant harmonic vibration which can loosen even the tightest bolts. Apply a medium-strength (Blue) thread-locking compound to the mounting bolts during final assembly. This ensures that your bumper remains rigid and safe without the need for constant re-torquing after every trail ride.
